Radiators
ok so i will be ordering my 4 core rad soon, but when i called Chevy Duty today, they said that people have had problems with GMC's. since then i have found that radiatorexpress.com has them for cheaper, with a reputable brand(modine). I have a 3 core, and will be replacing it with a 4. this will fit right? I do plan on getting the 4 core brackets/pads from earlyclassic.i am just making sure this will all work right together.....comments?

I'd hate to say a top notch company like chevy duty doesn't know what they are talking about...but a GM truck is a GM truck, be it chevy or GMC. They both came stock with them, and the engines are mounted in the same location...

ok thanks. they said that some customers who happened to have GMC's experienced the issue, so i think it might have been more of a 'look out' so they wouldnt have to deal with that.

I got a new 4 core for $158.00 delivered and they delivered it in an hour (I couldn't believe it) If your interested let me know and I'll find the name and # of the company. I don't have it handy, it's in the garage somewhere.

I found it on Ebay just type in Chevy Truck Radiator , they are called the radiator doctor $133 + $15 shipping and like I said it was here in one hour. Now I'm no expert on radiators but the a 4 core with less of a guarantee was $400++ plus shipping in the 67-72 truck catalogs.. Forget the Buy It Now just call the 800 number. I'm happy.

Well the radiator is nice but I was NOT impressed with the packaging. My brand-new radiator arrived with a couple dings in it already. The cardboard box they ship in is flimsy to say the least and the foam is VERY sparingly used in the box.
I wish I knew that they ship locally, not 8 miles from here. I would have picked it up...

I had to modify my shroud when I went from a 2 core to a 4 core. I will eventually replace the shroud, but I thought I'd give you a heads up.

LMN8UR, I think he probrably hit that step already since I dug this old post up from November. I, however, did not discover that the radiator was that much differentuntil this afternoon when I was trying to ditch the 2-row for the 4-row I purchased. Oh well, LMC now has even more of my money. For now the radiator is ZIP-TIED in and works great. My old 2-row was plugged so bad that the truck threatened to overheat if driven for more than 10 miles at highway speeds. Now it is a cool cucumber!

maybe they use different vendors in different parts of the country.

I bought the 4-row one from radiator doctor too.
I bought new mounts from one of the suppliers on this board. The radiator did NOT fit as I expected. However it turns out the problem is the aftermarket pads I bought new for the new mounts. They are taller than the stock ones. I ended up making little spacers for the top of the fan shroud to hold it to the top. At the bottom I have zip ties holding it in place. It has worked good for over a year that way.

I had one zip tied for a while, you need to put something in between the tank lips and the core support to keep the metal to metal friction down. FYI...the core support will win the battle.

The radiator sits and fits fine. However the aftermarket pads move the radiator UP just a touch. The zip ties I'm using are holding the shroud in place at the bottom (in place of the clips the shroud used to slide in to.)
At the top I had to make little metal spacers. They are only about 1 inch tall. The original sheet metal screws screw into the spacer at the top of the spacer. The bottom of the fabbed spacers is then holding on to the shroud with 1/4-20 nuts and bolts. I have a picture on my PC at home. Yes. You do NOT want a radiator rubbing on the core support.

Here is a picture of what I had to do using all aftermarket pads and mounts.
Somebody on this board told me the aftermarket pads are too thick.
