problem with backing.........help????
I just finished changing out my 305 with a new 350 engine on my 84 Silveradlo. I had the original 350 tranny rebuilt due to the major leaks and it just barely moved. I put a tranny cooler pkg on it, new hitch, new brk. converter.........all to tow my camper. MY PROBLEM.........on a steep (or not so steep) it won't back (push) my camper up a hill. You can floor it and it won't move.
Do I have a tranny problem, rear end problem or brk. problem? Any suggestions on what to check first and how to correct? I did do a brk job and even wonder if I may have screwed up the backing adjustment. Anyway........I really need some help.......thanks in advance for any advice. OH......I did put a new 600 cfm carb on it to thinking the old quad. was the problem. |

Does your trailer have brakes on it?

Does it back up without the trailer attached? If so then look at your trailer brakes being on. To me it sounds like your brake converter is your problem.

Re: problem with backing.........help????
camper does have brakes and that is a good point on the converter. But I was also helping a guy move his grandmother and she had some heavy elect wheel chairs.........we put them on my utility trailer which does not have brks and it was very weak backing up. I talked to a sr. guy and he said he had the same problem when he towed his camper in the mid 80s. He said those trannys were not geared right..........but I also have an 81 elky and have never had a problem.l The guy that rebuilt this tranny said it sounded like he needed to add some kind or widget to the tranny.,,,,,,,,but I don't know
