How heavy is a front clip

I need to take mine off and need to know how many people to buy beverages for. I would like to take it off as a unit. Also is it safe to set it on 2x4's across the bed? I have very limited space.
Thanks MDC

Re: How heavy is a front clip

I am also planning on placing my front-clip on 2x4's laid across the shortbed, and was wonder if it was safe. I am able to move mine around with the help of one person, but I don't have the hood attached. I was also wondering if I could transport it this this way.

Re: How heavy is a front clip

2 guys can do it. I weight about 175, my neighbor weighs about 195, we took it off with no problems and neither one of us lift weights at all, both have non-physical jobs. We are active people, but whatever.

I would have kept one small person to help out. I would have also taped the fender where it meets the door, I already chipped mine twice. I also would have made a rolling rack for it.

Be sure to keep the hood bolted on. It will hold everything in the correct shape.

Re: How heavy is a front clip

The front clip is way lighter than a cab. 2 men should have no problems. Don't center yourself... you'll need to carry it more towards the front.
Leather gloves would be a VERY good idea.

I just took one off by myself.......in pieces. So much rust it wasn't funny, guess that's what you get with an old mud bog truck.

I've done some crazy sheet, but it may be worth a barley pop or two to see that.
Of course BigChevyMan is probabaly who I was warned about. The one who can drink his weight in beer.

Re: How heavy is a front clip

I've had mine off a few different times. Me and my son did it the last time, (he's 13). Me and my wife has did it before, (she's 5'-2"). I usually have the hood off beforehand so it's considerably lighter that way.
I have moved it around the yard by myself though. Again, without the hood.

Re: How heavy is a front clip

Just completely tore mine down to little pieces. Fenders, grille, and radiator support wasn't too heavy.
