dropping the cab

Has any one ever tried or done this. I been looking at how my cab sits on my frame. I was wondering if anyone has ever relocated the steel cab mounts and core support mounts that are attached to the frame. I am just thinkin that they can be redrilled and bolted maybe a inch or a 1" or an 1 1/2" down. I know were only talkin a 1". But a 1" here and there is a lot added up. For maybe a couple hours work. Seems like I could drop the cab a little and still stay away from contacting the cab and frame. I may have to also notch the top of the frame in the front,so that the core support can sit down in the frame that inch. Not on top of it. Guys do a lot more work and spend a lot more time to the front cross member just to get a 1 1/2 lower. Maybe it can't or should not ,be done for some reason.

You could do it, but dont forget you will still have to lower the bed as well. If you are going to go to all that trouble why not Z or do the Xmember drop ? Going low is addicting When the ground gets in the way start cutting off body panels.

Yes, I did a 1 1/2" body drop on my longhorn. its a bunch of work, but it really is a nice mod, as that 1 1/2" drop causes no suspension "road rash" issues L

...and bumpers. Raising the bed floor would probably be the most straight-forward bed mod. Would the stock steering still hook up? I am wondering about clearance for HEI at the firewall. Clutch and column linkages could just be shortened. Nice thing is that this would 'lower' the entire truck not just one end.

CrazyLonghorn, any pictures of your mod?
I dont have any "in progress " pics on the body drop. the stock steering will still hook up,(with a little tweeking) if you dont go to wild on the drop(1 1/2" worked pretty good). the front frome horns were Z'ed, to drop the rad support & bumper, & at the rear, the bumper is lowered with dropdown brackets. I cut the mount lip off the box sides, moved it up & welded back on.......i have seen dropdown brackets made to do the job simpler tho. here are the pics http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn L

How would you work out the alignment of the fenders considering the bolt to the rad/core support?

the 1 1/2" was body drop over the rails, but if you need to drop the back (suspension) on the truck 1 1/2-2" a set of drop blocks on a coil truck would work very nice. best of luck, L

Switch out the busshing for shorter ones. I did this on our old shop truck. The new bushings were about 1/8" thick. I beleive they are the same mounts they use on roadsters....

You can probably get by with that on a 1" drop....more than that, if the cab dont hit sittin still, it sure will running down the road. I have urathane bushings under my longhorn. they move less(much less) than the rubber pcs. You still have some flex tho.... A lot depends on "daily driver" or show. I still like a fairly smooth ride on my rodney.....but she will be driven! 1/8" pads will bust up the cab on a truck you drive.......not to start a problem, but these old trucks "flex" pretty hard. many of the resto guys (Im not one of), say urathane bushings are not the ticket....too stiff, & they are stock height....I guess it just matters how many miles you drive per yr. Show to show......or "driver" L

way im doin my truck is usin hockey pucks i know it will be rought but to be low as im goin im willin to take the chance
