Spare tire mount

My 1970 C10 stepside does not have a mount for the spare tire. I want to place it under the floor of the bed. Goodmark sells a spare tire mounting kit for $120. Is this a good way to go? Is there other sources for one of these or is this something I should scrounge from a junkyard? Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks
Mark

Re: Spare tire mount

if i were to mount one under the bed i'd use the cable mounted ones from the 88 and up model. they are a lot easier to retrieve when needed so you don't have to crawl under the truck and fight that "usually" rusty threaded mount. just my 2 cents........

Mark B didn't post a wtb, and you shouldn't be selling except on the parts board.

My bad. He asked about another source, and I told him about mine. I will delete my post.

Re: Spare tire mount

I would go to a junkyard and look under just about any Chevy pickup they have until I found one in good enough shape to take home. The cable ones are nice, even if they aren't the right style for the older trucks. Depends on what you are doing with your truck. And it will be a lot less than $120.

Re: Spare tire mount

Look under Nissan trucks too. They have a real nice cable and winch unit.
