POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

I am fighting with myself to figure out what theme to paint my truck. Please help me out with what you guys think I should do. It is going to be a semi-daily driver and maybe cruise it to a couple shows.

I am torn because I like all of the choices. My Son (14yo) and Brother say I should do the 2 tone and leave the chrome. My Wife and my Buddy who is helping me with it wants me to go with the shaved chrome and paint it all orange with the very subtle ghost flames primarily on the hood and the fenders with maybe a lick or two going onto the doors.

The orange paint will actually be House of Kolors Tangelo Pearl and the White (if I go that route) would be a brite white with a couple coats of White Pearl over the top of it. The ghost flames will be very sublte, the kind where you have to look hard to see them. I am thinking of maybe a Gold pearl or maybe a Copper or darker Orange Pearl. I'd even be open to suggestions on the flame color as well.

I am looking to hold onto this truck for some time (I hope) and I like attention, and I am kind of leaning towards the all Tangelo with ghost flames. I might even think about adding some of the ghost flames to the dash somewhere??? Who knows, give me some ideas.

Mike

I am using HOK Tangelo on mine, it is awesome paint, and looks great in the sun. I think ghost flames would look good if done properly.

Re: POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

Yep, I agree. I have seen ghost flames where they used a regular paint or they used way too much pearl. I plan (if I go that route) to do 1-2 light dustings of pearl. I do alot of airbrushing and flames are one of my favorite graphics to paint (see link below), I will make sure to practice on an RC car body first to figure out how much pearl to actually lay down.

I have done a couple cars years ago with ghost flames. One was a black 69 chevelle with red ghost flames. I found out that you only need a very small amount of pearl over black, I used too much. It still looked killer, just not as subtle as I wanted it to be. The other was gold pearl ghost flames on a white 280Z for a friend, it was too subtle, very hard to see. It really makes a difference as far as the base color you are putting the ghost flames over, that is why I am going to do some practicing over the Tangelo.

Re: POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

Can I add a choice?
I would vote for ALL orange with the very subtle ghost flames, shave the chrome and KEEP the fender emblems but repaint the inner portion to match.
just my .02

Thanks, I fell in love with that color about 2 years or so ago (I think it's been about that long) when MTV's Pimp My Ride painted a car that color. I went out and bought about 8 4oz bottles of House of Kolor paints to paint my RC Cars with and the Tangelo looks even better in person. I then hooked up with my local paint store and they are giving it to me at cost!!! I told them I would make a vinyl sticker with their logo and name and put it in my back window for advertising. There is a H U G E markup on paint I never knew it was that much of a markup.

Well, I was just going to keep the factory tint windows (not going to get a dark film put on). I do like the non tint look on our trucks, I have seen some nice ones WITH tint though.

Is that what you meant by clear, or did you mean without the factory tint as well?

A friend of mine just painted his 69 Camaro Tangelo with pearl white hockey stripes! In the shop it looks great, when the sun hits it, it looks killer!!!.

Re: POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

I LOVE the HOK Tangelo. I almost painted my truck that color a while back. It would look awesome with ghost flames. And I'm a sucker for a clean shavin ride. Shave it up, and paint all the parts you can orange. I like chrome, but not too much. Just the wheels and bumper maybe. I don't like darker tint either, and with that paint, either clear or very light. I have platinum tint on mine. Not that mirror stuff, you can see inside mine, but at some angles you can't. Have you done the interior yet? Tangelo looks good with a light tan/beige color interior, IMO.

I was decided on tan interior even before I bought the truck. I was going to do the whole interior tan...all the steel parts as well as the seats, dash pad and door panels. But I think the Tangelo is too awesome of a color and I want it in the inside as well. I would eventually like to have the door panels, dash pad and seat done in a tan leather, someday.

Re: POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

I am also contemplating another detail. I am going to run Corvette style ralley wheels. 15x10's out back and 15x7's up front. I have the small derby/flat/disk brake caps and I will be running the stainless steel rounded beauty rings.

SHOULD I:
A) Paint the wheels silver?
OR
B) Paint the wheels Tangelo to match the truck?
The reason for the ralley wheels is a cost issue, I cannot afford to be rollin' any 18's or 20's, I am going broke with the consumables getting the thing ready for paint, I am sure some of you can understand.

If the chrome is in good shape how about a two tone maby the tangelo and white.still keep the subtle ghost flames like a slight metallic silver dusting onto the white with tangelo over silver flames (or is it not a candy paint)maby just the metallic silver dusting on the orange too.The Best of both worlds classic chrome with 21st century touches

Re: POLL: Help me decide what theme to paint my truck

Well, the whole reasoning for possibly removing the chrome altogether is because some of it is damaged or faded. I just cannot see spending $500+ for new upper and lower chrome (that is one of the deciding factors) especially since most of the new repo stuff I have seen has been less than par, IMO. I am trying to stick with all good used stuff, or at least as much as possible.
