HELP--Another Tire/Wheel Question
I have an factory stance 2WD '85 C10 Silverado LWB with original rims and 225/75/15 tires all around. I am putting 15x8 on front and 15x10 on rear.
On the REAR 15x10's, can I put a 295/50 and be okay? Also on the 15x10's, is a 275/60 okay? "Okay" means fit the wells without problems and/or tire-wheel match is safe. THANK YOU Last edited by ilg14; 01-04-2006 at 01:30 AM. |

The 295/50s would fit well on 15x10s but you're looking at ~26.7" tall wheel as compared to the factory 225/75s at ~28.3" tall. The 275/60s is taller at ~28" but is a bit narrow for 15x10s. They would work better on 15x9s. Without a drop, a staggered look may not look right to you. The blazer in the pic below has a dropped and staggered stance with 235/60/15s in front and 275/60/15s out back.

Thanks for the reply.
So, the 295/50 on a 15x10 would fit in the rear well without hitting anything? If so, I might combine that with 235/60's on 15x8's up front. With that combination, I believe I would move from 28.29" stock tire height to 26.10" in front and 26.61" in rear. How does that sound? I do like the staggered look, but would it look foolish on a stock stance with my previously-mentioned tire and wheel choices? Anyone got pics? Might it look better to combine the rear 295/50's with 235/70's up front and provide a more level look (235/70 = 27.95") Thanks again. Last edited by ilg14; 01-04-2006 at 02:50 AM. |

i have 235/60's on 15x8's on the front and 295/50's on 15x10's on the rear of my 79 swb the two sizes are real close to the same hieght the 235 being slightly shorter no fitment problems

Back in the day with a 15x10 with unknown backspacing I ran 295/50's with no clearance issues. At the stock height it will look dated though. At less than 27" there is a lot of air between the wheelwell and tire when looking from the side.

no difference between swb and lwb mine has 4inch back spacing on the 15x10's some might think it looks dated with all that space between the tire and wheelwell i personally think it fits the era of the truck

I have 15x10 with 275/60-15 all around with a stock stance. I likey.

Can anyone else chime in about experiences with 275/60's on a 15x10? Most online places, and others I have talked with, suggest a 275/60 be put on a 9.5" rim and no larger.

BTW, if the middle is wearing under proper inflation, it may be too wide for the size of rim they're running on.- Currently running 275/60-r15 on factory rally wheel (rear tires). Started out with 28 psi with new tires since that was what seemed to wear the tire chalk I put across the tread evenly. After 3000 or so miles, it was clear that was too high. I dropped it to around 24-25, but gave up by 6000 miles. Tires were pretty much toast. Put new ones on and I've got them at 22. Haven't got enough miles on it to see how they are wearing and won't know till spring.

I had way too many sets of wheels on my 77 I had in high school . I wish I had pics of it still . I ran a 15 x 8 with 3.5 BS on the front , a 15x10 with 3.5 and then moved to 4.5 inches of backspace . Mine were Weld Draglites most of the time . Also ran Centerline autodrags, Champ 500's ,and Convo Pros at different times . My buddy had a tire/wheel shop . I ran a 235 /60 front and 295/50 rear . I also moved to a 275/50 on the front a few times . They fit with no clearance issues . My dads 81 short bed had 8' and 10's with 235/70 front and 275/60 rear . That is a nice combo for a factory height truck . His foot was lighter and his tires always seemed to last longer . All 275/60's that I have had experience with wore in the middle regardless of the brand . I usually ran BF's but my friends ran others . We all wore them in the middle . Deflating them should make them wear on the edges but they always seem to wear in the middle . Frank

Yes, these Grand Am's do wear in the middle, too.

Ok, ilg14, I got some pictures that might answer your original question about fitment for a 15x10 with 275/60-15's. I don't know what the backspacing is on these wheels. I'm sorry it took so long.
