How to make dolly for a front clip? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'd like to make this my project for the day. I was going to go buy some good inflatable tires. I don't have a welder, but I'd like to either bolt together or make a rolling front clip dolly to move around my front clip. Anyone got plans or ideas?

Plan on doing this by end of day, if possible.

I just picked up a wooden pallet that I am going to mount some swivel casters on. If there is a Nolan plumbing co. in your area, they always have tons of pallets for free pick up. That is where I get mine.

Hmmm, but the front clip is 6' wide and most pallets or only 3' wide....I really need something that will let me roll the front clip through the doorway of my garage so I can store it in a basement room...skinny and long is what i'm looking to get.

You gave me a good idea though. Maybe if I got some OSB from the store, 6 casters and a few 2x4's I could toss something good together.

Southern Pine 2x4 Technology Shifty. Something like I did for my cab dolly. Make a square base piece, then build a small riser section to rest the radiator core supports on. Make a rear brace that will be tall enough to rest the hood hinges on. Then a couple cross braces for stability. Add your casters and away you roll.
Here is a quick and crude picture of what I'm talking about.

I went to the store this weekend and knocked this out. The most expensive part were the 6" pneumatic wheels ($14/ea) at Northern Tool. The rest of it cost less than $15.

I could measure it out and post pseudo plans if anyone else ever needs something like this. IT's 80" wide and I think 26" deep. The two crossbraces are 2x6 material and the crossbraces are all 2x4's.
