Factory case in a 72 was a 205. Got a pic? or can you give a description.

Re: identifying transfer case

If it`s a 3spd manual, the original t-case would be a Dana20.On the back of the case there should be an aluminum I.D.tag.Might have to do some cleaning.

HHm makes me wonder if mine has been changed,it's currently 3spd with 205,my Dad's 71 gmc had the dana 20 and my ex 72 blazer had a dana 20 with 3spd setup.Gonna have to change the tranny soon somehow I messed up a sincronizer when replaceing the spacer between the tranny and transfercase

Re: identifying transfer case

I don`t think all 3spds were backed by model 20s.Some came with 205s.I was thinking I could have worded that better this morning.

Re: identifying transfer case

Dana 20s were only used in Blazers/Jimmys, not in pickups or Suburbans.

I know for a fact that not all 3-speed manuals were backed by the dana 20. I swapped out a 3-speed manual/NP205 for a th350/NP205 a couple of years ago.

My truck was a mutt when I got it but the chassis appeared to be all from the same truck. That truck was a 1971 3-speed manual with 4wd.
