For those who may be too young to remember, and the rest of us that want a taste of nostalgia, one of the original monster trucks...

I came across this and couldn't resist. I'm going to have to build the replica, in scale of course. Maybe if I get up too Ham Lake, I'll see if I can visit and if he still has it.

Sweet - I'd go to the monster truck races if they ran the old classics that look like trucks as oppossed to the things they race mostly these days.

The ones theses days are like tractors, rear engined, tubeframed tractors.

Yes, I think it was by AMT. I built one of that and Bigfoot (the original 78-9 Ford) back in the mid 80's.

i use to collect all the big pictures of those REAL MONSTERS,but as stated they aren't what they use to be.there use to be two 65 chevy monster trucks,one was the skoal bandit,don't remember the other name.but story goes they were made wider to compensate for the tire width.these trucks were huge.lost pics during divorce a few yrs ago.had my boys room covered with these type pics for all the old time monster trucks.even bought him one of the bigfoot trucks that you put batteries in and it went by it's self.
got to meet casper the ghost here in jacksonville[fl].it was a 1957 chey belair.
the guy lives or lived in missippi,had his own 4x4 shop there.nice guy too,sold him an engine the nite of his apperence here in jax becuase his blew up.got in the pits free,plus got in to the show free.

I had USA 1 and a couple of Bigfoot's I built. Sat around for years and I finally sold them on Ebay.

That is the first truck with that paint scheme I remember seeing

I didn't know there was a 67-72 version

I remember the local Chevy dealer had replicas of that thing for sale, white, decals, chrome roll bar and step bumper, etc. They looked cool

That guy was from Minnesota, dont recall his name. Gene Pearson @ Performance Concepts was my machinist @ that time & was the engine builder for that truck. I think I recall that his wife runs monster trucks now

He still has it, I saw it at the World of Wheels show last April in Minneapolis.

Hey hgs_notes, I bet you can't believe this thread got resurrected.

I was gonna start a thread on this truck when I found this one on a search. So holy resurrection batman!!!

I thought the young guns might like to see it. And the older timers, like me, would like to see it again. I saw this truck at tampa stadium back in the day. But I will admit, we all went there to see bigfoot.

I used to love those things. I remember the first time they went to the 66 inch tall tires, the first time I saw TWO Bigfoots together, Bigfoot and Bob Chandler making a cameo in Cannonball Run II, and Bigfoot with those ridiculous 11 foot tall tires. There was also a truck called "Boss Hogg" that was a pickup truck with an 11 foot bed and I think an F9000 truck cab in front of it. I know Bob Chandler also ran DUAL 66 inch tires on each corner a few times as well. All back when the base truck was a real truck, and it was heartbreaking when they flipped one of them over.

I loved those things..... back in the day, before the stupid looking puppy dog ears, bull horns, and batman wings they have now.

I was actually there when Bigfoot made it over the "big eliminator" hill for the first time. I was working for a guy who sand-raced a Jeep at the time. We went to the Gravelrama every year through the 80s.
Haven't been in more than 20 though

USA-! was always my favorite and it bugged me how everyone was all about Bigfoot like it was the only monster truck. I actually always liked having a different favorite,though. I can't account for other's bad taste

I drove a '71 with 14.50/37s in the late '70s. That might have had something to do with it.
