67-72 emblem install question
Greetings Fellow Chevy Lovers,
My project is a 71 K5 Blazer. I stripped it bare before taking it in for paint. Now that I'm all painted I want to re-install the K5 fender emblems. These particular emblems are located in a space where you cannot gain access behind them. WHen I removed them I noticed they were secured by some sort of a push-on nut that popped into the holes in the fender. I have my shiny new emblems but they didnt come w/ the cool little push-in fasteners...and I cant seem to find these anywhere. Could anyone shed some light as to how I can fasten my K5 fender emblems to my truck? As I mentioned this is complicated by the fact that I cannot gain access directly behind where these emblems mount. thanks in advance for your time and help... -jason attached to my post are pics of my baby. |

Re: 67-72 emblem install question
First off, Welcome, and great looking truck.
You should be able to get to that area by opening the door and reaching behind from there I think. Nuts should be in the HELP! aisle at your local parts store. I know this sounds hokey, but if all else fails, clean the surfaces with alcohol and use a couple of small pieces of 3M double sided tape. They will stay in place. Good luck -Chris

Re: 67-72 emblem install question
I don't think you'll be able to reach them from the door jam. You might be able to get the one close to the jam, but not the one in the front. You also may have the fender to cowl seals there in the way. Mine were held in place with speed nuts. I had to drop down the inner fender and loosen the bottom fender bolt and used a 3/8" box wrench to remove the nuts. It was still a "PIA" to get to, but I got them. Thing is, I ended up removing my fender anyway. I'll be paint the fenders off the truck, and will install the emblems before mounting back on the truck. I like the idea "gringoloco" has about using 3M tape. Get the "red" tape. Very strong. Only thing is that you'll worry about them falling off going down the road. Make sure that you screw on the speed nuts on the emblem before installing on the fender. This way, you will have a thread already on the stud of the emblem to start the nut to. I also use a bit a caulking around the studs to prevent rusting later on.
There also may be a vender on here that has those press-on clips you're talking about. That would be the way to go..... steve

Re: 67-72 emblem install question
Usually the emblems come with speed nuts as Steve said. I can reach my arm in and get the front nut on but not the back. His method is the easiest way about loosening the fender. I'm sorry I didn't mig my holes shut when I had my flames done on my front clip!. Your truck looks sweeeeet by the way and welcome from Maryland!

Great Looking Blazer, and welcome to the board. It doesnt look like your fenders are drilled for the emblems, and I wouldn't if they are not. Over time they will begin to rust if you drill them out now and dont touch up all the bare metal. I have glued numerous emblems on these trucks with the above mentioned red 3M tape. If applied to cleas surfaces it has always worked for me. Good Luck

Re: 67-72 emblem install question
Here is what you need--NAPA has them-called a barrel nut-push into the hole -emblem stud push into them. Got them on my truck for emblems and in some places for trim. My son (orangeuavol) used them on his blazer. They come in different sizes. NAPA part # for emblem size--665-1457
