Need some quick starter help.....
When I got home from work I tried to start my blazer and the starter would not disengage from the fly wheel so I went down and bought a new silonoid and still have the same problem... The key cylinder still returns back to the start position but the starter still runs.... Any help would be great....

Sounds like the starter drive is a gonner, can you get it to release with the battery disconected?I would try that if you can then I would get anew starter.

Re: Need some quick starter help.....
I'm having a similar problem. When I try to turn my truck over it attempts to start and then there is this AWFUL knocking noise. I took it up to my friends shop and he watched as I turned the truck over again. He yelled at me and told me to stop and said my starter was shaking. I got home and the two bolts are as tight as I can get them. I'm going to pull it off and check it from the top.

Re: Need some quick starter help.....
I had the same problem as Yellow69, went thru a few starters, cracked nose housings. When I pulled the engine, I found out what the problem was, a cracked & warped flexplate. It was cracked near where it bolts to the crank, so you can't see any cracks until the engine was separated from the tranny.

Re: Need some quick starter help.....
You could try spinning the flexplate by hand and see if you see anything that is obviously wrong with it. I did that with mine, but couldn't tell that it was warped until I removed it. I broke a 2 or 3 nosecones before I seen the problem. When I would engage the starter, the gear would hit the flexplate and make a god-awful noise and not turn the engine. Hope that's not the case with yours, maybe it just needs to be shimmed correctly...

Re: Need some quick starter help.....
Im gona go with the shimming option I wouldn't shim it to much because then you will shave the fly wheel teeth. Another thing to check when you are spinning your flywheel by hand is to see if the flexplat will move front to back. I have had the torque conveter bolts work themselves loose. That mey cause some starter problems.

Re: Need some quick starter help.....
I've dropped the starter and there is no cracking of anything. It just started doing this about around Thanksgiving. I don't drive my truck in the winter, but i did attempt to start it the other day and it was still doing it. I'll check the flexplate. I've also had the bolts work themselves loose on my old 69. I'm going to go with a 700r4 in the next month or so. If that is the problem I'll have to wait until the surgery
