Tires suggestions for 10x15 rims??
Gents-
I am looking for the sort of nostalgic, big rear little front look on my 67 Stepside. My Aluminum slots are 15x10 6 lug. I need suggestions for the rear tires. Something meaty looking with street tread. I was thinking along the 60 series. What will fit under there, and what is too big?? Any thoughts?? ------------------ 67 Chevy C20 LB Stepside, 350 4-bolt with goodies.

on my old chev i ran 15x10 with bfg 295-50-15 on the back with 15x8 215-65-15 up front

275/60/15 I might would even try a 285 or 295/60/15

With 10" wide rims a 50's series tire will look best. I think a 60's series will "balloon out" the sidwalls too much. But to each his own.

The 50 series/60 series does not indicate the width...it indicates the height.
I have 9 1/2 inch wide tires, and my 275/60 fits fine, I could go wider if i wanted to with no problem what so ever. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. A 275/60 should fit 8-10" wheels,mine are on an 8" wheel,& print ok.....but I think a 9" wheel would be better...69

50 is a refrence to percentage of side wall.
By default a 295/50/15 is wider than a 295/60/15 because if 50% of the midpoint sidewall to midpoint sidewall measurment is sidewall instead of 60% then the tread is also 50% instead of 40%. ------------------ 1970 short bed fleetside

Before I switched to 17"s, I ran 15x7 front w/ 225-70 and 15x10 in rear w/ 275-60. I thought the 275 looked just right on the 10". My front tire was about 26-1/2" tall and the rear was about 27" tall, so pretty good match, too.

I'm running 295/50s on 15x10s and 245/60s on 15x8s. You can see some pictures in the link in my signature. I used to have 275/60s on the back, but the 295/50s look way better in my opinion.

No, that is incorrect.
On a 275/60R15 for example, the 275 is the width of the tire in mm. The 60 is the aspect ratio...meaning (in this situation) 60% of the 275 mm. Or 165 mm in this case. The R stands for Radial. the 45, 50 or 60 series is refered to as the aspect ratio, it is a percentage of the width. example a 255 50 15. the first number 255 is the widest part of the tire measures in mm when mounted on the recomended rim. The second number 50 means that the sidewall on this tire is 50% as tall as the tire is wide. A 255 is about 10.5 in wide which means the sidewall is 5.25 inches high. hope this helps a little.

longhornmail...me thinks we went to the same school....a 295 is a 295 irreguardless of aspect ratio, the only diff is wether it's a short or tall 295.

Topic should of read "tire size learnin' wanted" LOL Anyway, I've been looking at tires till I see them in my sleep! 295/50/15 will look great on your slots. I just mounted my 15x8's with 295/50's because I couldn't find reasonably priced 10's in time. They have a little more bulge but still lood great.

I didn't mean to start an arguement!! LOL. Thanks for all the advice. I will check all links suggested. It is difficult now a days to choose, as the cost is prohibitive to switching around!!!
