missing key

Bought a truck from an impound yard today, no title and NO KEY! Other than getting a locksmith to come out, any way of getting an ignition key? Truck is an 84-86 C20, with a 4speed. Any way of unlocking the locked steering column with out breaking something? This truck may move under its own power . . .
thanks guys.

Re: missing key

If you have the time, you could pull the steering wheel and lock plate and replace the ignition tumber. You would need a steering wheel puller, lock plate compressor, either torx or phillips screwdrivers, and a small pick. I have done this on columns off the truck in about 15-20 minutes. What would a locksmith charge? If it was me I would consider having it towed. Here in Indy you can get a truck moved anywhere in the city for around $50.

The only way I know to defeat the column lock without screwing up the column would also require pulling the wheel and lockplate. If you have a four speed tilt column, you DON'T want to screw it up, those things are tough to find.

Re: missing key

good news and good luck. Had the truck towed to my place. Went through some old junk keys, found one that worked!~ Think I got a real steal. Turns out the truck is a Siverado 30 1 ton, single wheel, 3:73 posi, dual exhaust. runs damn good. Bought it for the bed. Its rust free! In fact the doors and front clip are good also. Someone painted this original Red truck with a cheap white color, also looks like truck belonged to some kind of construction company. Quite a steal, $400.00 delivered. Will post pics tomorrow. thanks for the advice on the missing key guys.

Re: missing key

Sounds like you did real good. Would you be interested in selling any of the hydraulic clutch parts? I need the pressure line that runs from the master to the slave cylinder. If you don't want to split it up, I might be interested in the entire set-up.

Re: missing key

thanks for the interest guys in the parts. too early to tell how I'm going to part it out. I need to have it move under its own power for a while yet. Located halfway between Allen town and Phila.

Re: missing key

I suppose but I bought it under the assumption that I would part it out, which I'm starting on. Before anyone PMs me though, it will be a while before I'm ready to sell anything. I need it to move on its own until warm weather.
