Diff. Gear Ratios
Can anyone tell me the actual gear ratios used in the 72 C10? Mine is VERY close to 3.00:1. I hope that will work OK with a stock 402 and THM400 trans!

3.07, & 3.73 were the most common. the 3.73 was found in must of the 6cyl/stick trucks, where a 3.07 was more common under a V8 /auto truck. The 3.07 gear should work out pretty well with your big block. good luck.....Al

Nice to see another Ohioan on here. I'm just down the street from you in Columbus. I'll be rumbling by you come friday...actually twice. I'll be heading to Kalamazoo MI to pick up an engine and tranny. Honk if you see me in my beat to hell short bed GMC.
As for your gears, it probably wouldn't hurt to pop the cover off of that thing and chainge the oil. This is a fluid overlooked more than an automatic tranny. While you have the cover off, you can count the teeth and find out exactly what it is you have in there. My money is on the sh!tty 3.07. |
