hmmmmmm... older body on 72 k20 frame ???

just a random thought that one gets on a 2.5 hour trip to Mpls this weekend... I have a 72 k20 drivetrain/chassis/totally rotted out body!!! and I have been looking for a somewhat clean 67-72 2wd that i could use as a donor body to make a neat work truck out of, but i havnt had much luck.. theyre out there, but as we all know our trucks are probably tthe most popular of all trucks to restore... soooooooooo i have seen a handfull of 60-66 long beds around that may fit the bill and they have been advertized pretty cheap... what would it take to put a 60-66 body on that frame/chassis??? anyone even thought about doing it??? i hate to cut up a 72, BUT i bought/traded for it and there is no title for it...so would have to title it with the donor body truck if it had one... well now im rambling.. any opinions????

It is an easier swap with that style frame then say a 73+ style frame. I just hate to see the 67-72 style converted to something else, especially 4x4s. Sometimes it's about budget, I understand. Trevor

Re: hmmmmmm... older body on 72 k20 frame ???

yeah i agree with you.. i dont like to sacrifice one either... like i said random thought on a long drive... but curious if it could be done within reason... i had had a 63 until this summer and stil have alot of parts for that left over and i really would like a 3/4 ton 4x4 worker, and its hard to find affordable 67-72 bodys around, especially in these parts...i havnt seen any 65-66 custom cab, 3/4 ton, 4x4s, 16.5x8 steelies with 65-66 hubcaps, disk brakes, buckets and tilt (spares for my 70k10 resto)... might be kind of neat and different.. nothing would happen till this summer, when im teaching, kelly gets the heated garage and the kids get all my time... so now i have time to get wacky ideas!!! any other opinions????

Re: hmmmmmm... older body on 72 k20 frame ???

Do it.It will be cool.Were the 65-66 3/4t hubcaps for inner/clip-style or outer/nub-style wheels?
I plan to build a fun/work`72 with a Reading low-profile utility bed(service body).
