69 GMC K1500 v6 at auction tonight!

I just went and looked at a 1969 GMC K1500 custom with a V6, 4 speed, tach, P/S and PB. It will be up for auction tonight. My curiosity has the best of me so I will have to go. If it goes cheap enough, I may buy it to resell or part out.

The front clip and tailgate are good, the rest of the body is rusted. The wood in the bed rotted away long ago. There is no carb so the engine will not start. I figure it must be pretty rare and with the options, it should be worth a few hundred if I were to part it out. I hope to save it from the scrap yard if nothing else. I just bought $400 in paint for my truck so I can not afford to spend much on this one.

Sorry I did not have my camera so I do not have pictures. This will change if I buy it!

The V-6's were dropped from the 10-20-30's in March of '69. Rare truck!

How come they were in trucks as new as '74? were they in c-40/c-50's?

Re: 69 GMC K1500 v6 at auction tonight!

The V-6's were used in the larger trucks until 1974, but they just were not popular in the pickups after '67, when GMC started to offer the Chevy small and big block V-8's. The V-6's were very expensive to manufacture, and really were more of a heavy truck engine than something well suited for a pickup. The were very thirsty, too. The V-6's were a dealer-installed option in the pickups through '72.

No wonder not many V-6 in pickups after '67, thanks Bob.

If you do part it out, I would be interested in buying some of the parts. Send
me a PM with your phone number and we can hash it out.

Re: 69 GMC K1500 v6 at auction tonight!

Well due to the bidding frenzy I got involved in, the truck is mine! Now I just have to decide what to do with it. First I need to get it home and take some pictures. Then you can look for it in the trucks for sale or parts forums. I have the auction picture that I will try and upload later.

I do not want to disobey board rules so the truck is NOT for sale on this post. I just started the thread because I was excited to find the "rare" options. Paul

where was the auction? Was it a 4mag option, or was it one of the flint options? Do they often have classic vehicles?

Re: 69 GMC K1500 v6 at auction tonight!

Here is a picture (it is my first picture post so I hope it works). The auction was at Volunteers of America in Pontiac. They auction every Wednesday and Saturday. See the website www.voaautoauction.org the day before the auction for pictures of the vehicles. People donate the vehicles to them so there is a wide assortment. It seems like they have some sort of classic car/truck at least once a month. Some are even in decent shape. The prices vary depending on who is at the auction of course.

It doesn't look too bad at all from this view, I've certainly seen worse! Keep it and restore it!

Too bad your all the way out there............I'd buy the whole thing off you and you'd make a nice profit

I heard the V-6 could be had through the entire 70's........

They are a great pickup engine if you do any towing IMO. The one in my '69 t-tag works good!

The tag on the door says 12/68 so I assume that it was built around this time. I looked at the title, the guy that donated it owned it since 1972. It appears to be original paint.
