What did you get done this weekend????

What did you get done to your truck this weekend?

I got quite a bit done. Got the truck in the garage Friday night, Saturday, we took the Rockwell t-case out. Started at about 9:00 AM, unhooked the drivshafts. (front one is a PITA to get off), and finally at about 4:00 Sunday afternoon, we got it out of the truck. Some of those bolts for the tranny/t-case adapter are bad to get at, but we got them out. We took the t-case apart today, only to find that most of the internal parts were like new shape. The gear in there that drives high range only (slider gear??) wiggles around a little, the middle bushing is worn some. The other noticable thing was that the case is worn where the top shift fork is. From all the popping out of gear it has done, the rod that is on the PTO cover that controls high-low etc, it chaffed some metal out of the case itself. We have come to the conclusion that those 2 things are making it pop out of gear, because everything else is in like-new condition. I'm planning on calling about a parts truck this week.

Also took my heavy custom made rear bumper off. Made out of 5/16in plate steel, thing must weigh 30-40 lbs or more. Needs some minor mods to make it more usuable, like more bracing so I can back in to things, adding big shackles as towhooks, few other things . You get the picture.

Re: What did you get done rhis weekend????

Fixed wiring under the dash, Moved the CB to a better location, welded the passengers side mirror, and farted around with the Big Block some. Was planning on steam cleaning it this weekend but work and the weather didn't help matters.

Re: What did you get done rhis weekend????

Loaded the truck up to the roof with crap from the garage to take to the dump from working on the Vette this past winter. Went junkyarding today looking for parts for the DD, but wound up getting stuff for the truck, and now I have a working dome light in the truck as well as a sill plate on the drivers side.

Re: What did you get done rhis weekend????

I still can't do anything to the truck as we still have lots of snow here, although it did start to melt this weekend. I started gutting the babies nursery in our new house so that we can install a new window, re-insulate and re-drywall it so that the young'in will be warm and comfortable after it is born in September. I did work on cleaning out the '68's garage a bit more as well for when it comes out of my parents storage building next month.

Installed 2.5" drop spindles and 4" drop leafs. Anybody install leafs be sure to install front bolt first. If not, you're in for a world of grief!

Re: What did you get done this weekend????

Saturday - I didn't do anythng TO the truck. But I did go up to a fellow board member's house (John Fabris) and cut out some patches from a cab that I'll need this summer. He gave me some vent doors too. Thanks again John.

BTW, That Olds pictured in his avi is badass. And his truck even more so.

Today I went out for a little ride. Drove out to a nice long road by the salt ponds and tested my brakes that are feeling a little screwy. Laid down some rubber while I was at it (just once, I couldn't resist)

I was gonna bleed the brakes but it was cold and windy and I don't have an enclosed garage, Bummer.

Re: What did you get done this weekend????

Starting the mating of the 2wd to the 4wd. The engine and body from the 2wd are going onto the 4wd frame and trans/transfer. Got the whole front off the 4wd, hood, fenders inners, grill, rad supp, doors, unbolted the cab and disconnected all lines and wiring, and pulled the fuel tank. The next day we put together my brand new engine hoist and pulled the engine and rolled the cab back on the frame. Pulled the clutch for replacement. Started cleaning the frame for paint. Tons of new parts arrived during the week...4" lift kit, carpet and sound deadener, white faces and led's for gauge cluster, new seat cover, New 3 point seat belts, A/C balls and hoses, and lots more little stuff.
I took lots of pics, but have no internet at home , so can't post any.
Felt great getting so much done! It was cold as he!!, but we had a roof over us and a wood stove fired. Only 1 of the shop doors will close, but all in all a great step torward getting my son's truck done. We're hoping it will be ready for paint by May.

Re: What did you get done this weekend????

Well I went to Lowes to get some underlaymant for the deck floor. I had a 3 season room put on the deck last fall and now it's time to finish the floor. Tomorrow I'll try to get the garage cleaned up some so I can start my next stage on the truck. I should send off a parts order too. Next stage is to get all of teh engine external components and brackets detailed and put on.

Re: What did you get done this weekend????

Friday I rounded off the tube fittings on the 70 Camaro prop valve, got mad and quit working on it

Saturday got the truck back from getting a 700R4 put in, readusted the shifter to read correctly, plugged a vacuum line the shop had left open, helicoiled the stripped bolt on the intake where the carb mounts and then the TV cable was out of adjustment, got mad and quit working on it, then got help from Bisquik65 in chatroom - Thanks Erick!!!

today, installed a tilt column, got the rounded off lines broken loose with vise grips, started installing the power brake booster, and put in the clutch and brake pedals to install a standard, all in the Camaro, got happy that nothing went south today, also cleaned up the garage a bit

The weather was nice enough that I pulled the truck out and fired it up but the roads are still too salt covered to go for that first drive of the season yet

My LWB is now a SWB. Still need to weld up the front cut and finish off the back section weld. I need to get a longer "vise grip" type of welding clamp. I think it turned out pretty nice.
