Is it just me?

Went to look at a truck today off of ebay, was pretty much as advertised and thought the bidding would reflect that. Boy was i wrong, it was 4 hour round trip and by the time I got back it had doubled! There is no way these people bidding on it have an idea everything it needs. The pictures were pretty accurate to a point but as i climbed around it there were some trouble spots.Maybe its just me I havent bought a toy in at least 6 years and I think i am a little gun shy! Anyway thanks for listening to me vent.

Re: Is it just me?

It's the "heat of the moment" crowd that hoses you. They are looking for a particular truck, and assume that since the problems aren't visable in a photo, they must not exist.Dumb, but we live in a terribly impulsive world.

Re: Is it just me?

I would want to see and touch ANY vehicle that I purchase. That is why the E-bay thing is a potential quagmire for me. I would appreciate any person that would come and see what my vehicle looked like when I sold it, because I want them to be sure of what they are buying. There are alot of people that are wanting more than what their eye can see, so they will believe what the pictures tell them and bid with their hearts and not their m inds.

Turn the guy in.. Excessive Shipping & Handling is a violation of ebay policy

Quote:
eBay encourages sellers to clearly describe the item and terms of shipping and delivery in their listings to avoid possible confusion.

A shipping and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. However, shipping and handling fees may not be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.

When a bid is placed, the bidder is entering into an agreement with the seller to purchase the item, which most often means incurring reasonable shipping charges that may also include handling fees.

In the case of disagreements between buyers and sellers regarding shipping charges, eBay encourages the parties to try to work the matter out.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
Listing cancellation
Limits on account privileges
Account suspension
Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
Loss of PowerSeller status

Some Examples

Listing a DVD with a shipping and handling charge of $25 for standard shipping is considered excessive shipping and handling.
use this link to report him

The guy has 83378 feedbacks and 1131 negatives, odds are ebay won't do crap, they tend to turn a blind eye to their high volume customers..

Re: Is it just me?

got a link to the auction. I bought my most recent truck off ebay down in texas without seeing it or driving it. This was so dumb however the guy seemed very up front about the truck. He was a newly enlisted army troop who was being shipped out to Iraq and needed the money for his wife and kids. Now was the truck perfect? No but this is what i expected and for what it is and what i paid i am soo happy. it is my little pic to the left and it is a 1984 c10 detals in the sig. So i had great luck but would not do the ebay thng agian cause you just don't know these people. I got lucky with a very forth comming guy but we all know the scamers out there.

Re: Is it just me?

I bought the 79 based on two pictues of the engine, 3 emails, and a phone conversation.. Link to Auction.

It was only after the auction that the guy told me he bought the truck in another action weeks earlier and I saw pictures of it. Link to that auction

2 days after the auction the guy emailed and said he had run it out of fuel and it wouldn't start, so he offered to let me drop the deal or take it for $250 and he would leave the hydro boost brakes on it. I took the deal.

I arranged to have it hauled 500 miles ($400) and waited. A month later it arrived with the fuel and injection system taken apart. 12" of new fuel line and 1.5 hours later it was running. Truck turned out to be in real nice shape, solid body, no rust through, runs great. Looks ugly at first glance but once I got under, in, and around it I couldn't beleive how solid it really was.

For $650 total I rolled the dice. It worked out extremely well and I got lucky. If it was $1000 or more I probably wouldn't have done it. I would have wanted to see it first hand before bidding.

Re: Is it just me?

I originally bought it to put the engine and A/C into an 85 but, when it got here that changed. The Body is so solid on the 79 I am going to get it fixed up. The only rust through is below the batteries, bottom of the doors, and the bed floor because it had a bed liner in it. The underside is almost like new, the paint on the frame is still shiny, The cab floor, rockers, and corners are rock solid, seriously it looks like the truck is no more than 3 years old. Not to mention it drives straight as an arrow. The guy in the first auction wasn't lying about how well he took care of it. There are new parts all over the thing.

Meanwhile my 85 that started life in Michigan is pretty rusty, rust through on every panel, No A/C, Interior trashed,

In the case of this truck, beauty is truly more than skin deep, from 10 feet it looks like a junker but take 10 minutes to drive it and look it over and under and it's one nice truck.

I am going to swap the Front Stabilizer Bar, Rear Springs (Six Leaf Extra capacity), 700R4, Bed Floor, Doors from the 85. Find some parts to replace the ones that are banged up in front, and fix up the interior, sand, prime, and paint.

Maybe that red Georgia Clay is Mother Nature's Rust Proofing? but, that Georgia sun is hell on Silver Clear Coated Paint and Interior Trim. That's all easily fixed though.
