Off Topic Question
I know this is off topic but I have had such good luck with advice here over the years I figured it was worth a try. I am looking to purchase a Chevrolet Chevelle Convertible but I do not know which year or model to go after. I do want a Convertible with Power Top, A/C, PS, PB, and PW. However, does any know what price range I will be in based on year? Please let me know. Your 2 cents is more than welcome.

My personal favorites are 66 and 70-72 though I wouldn't scoff at anything 64-72 hardtop or rag top. I personally had a 71 SS454 clone when I was in high school. I really miss that car.

I personally like the 70-72 chevelles as well. Best thing to do is look up every car selling place online (like autotrader.com) and find ones you like and that should give you a good idea what they are going for. Pick up some local traders to see if they are any in there. And of course, check e-bay.

Most any year Chevelle in a convt. is gonna cost ya. Check Ebay and see what ones you like. I know a good restored convt. can run 15K+ pretty easily.
If it's a matching #'s or a big block car or any other hard to get options expect to pay primo $$$ for it. Maybe even 30K+. Do you want something to restore or a finished runner?

The reason is because I have the option to buy a 1968 Chevelle Malibu from a 2nd owner that has PS, PB, AC, Power Top, Power Windows, bench seats, glass rear window, tilt wheel, 327/325. However, the car needs a restoration. The price is $10,000 negotiable. What do you guys this?

For 10 grand it better be all done in my opinion.........as far as years, its all personal pref. I personally like th 69 the best, after that is the 71-72 .... i have found that the 70 model tends to sell for a lot more money.. but get what you want... I wouldnt pay 10 for something that needs work though

That is a very good point 1LoC10. The more I think about it and the more I read I think I am going to hold out and try to find a 1970 Chevelle SS Convertible that already has PS, PB Disk Brakes, AC, Power Windows, tilt wheel, and a big block. These things seem to bring crazy money and are hard to come by but I am sure one will tunr up eventually. I am not in it to resell though because I feel a vehicle becomes a part of the family after all the work and sacrifice that goes into one (such as my 1968 Chevy Truck). However, I would like to have something that is worth more than I put into t once it is done. What do you guys think?

If you haven't noticed in my signature, I like the 70-72 models the best.
I have a 1971 convertible. It has a power top, AC, Power DRUM brakes, and the factory original 307. My car is bone stock and I intend to keep it that way. IT IS NOT FOR SALE. Just thought I'd share some Chevelle thoughts. Power disk brakes were still an option on Chevelles through 1972. Montes, same chassis, had disks stock from 1971 on. If you find a Monte in the junkyard with its front spindels and hardware attached, you found a needle in a haystack. These components fit on all a-bodies of this vintage. Many Skylarks, Cutlasses and Chevelles are stopping on Monte Carlo front disk brakes. The general made less than 6000 convertibles in 1971. If you want a 1970 SS, the general made 17 LS6 454 convertibles that year. So good luck with that. I think one of them was sold this year or last at Barret-Jackson for a qua-trillion dollars. There are many more 396 models out there but they too are bringing crazy money. While I like the 71 and 72 better, most folks like the 70 the best. You can easily pick up a 71 or 72 and make it look like a 70. However I would keep all the parts because I believe an original one will be worth more in the long run. Now to break your heart. I paid $1100 for my convertible in about 1989. I didn't have to fix much. I bought a NOS LF fender in the GM box for $75 and a RF used fender for the same money. Those days are long gone. There is aftermarket metal but like for our trucks the fit is hit or miss. I would pick a year then buy the best one you can find as soon as you can. Then go from there. The parts are available. The price of these cars is only going up. A final thought. My 72 is the first car I ever owned. I bought it a few months before I had a driver's license. I fell in love with the body style when I was a kid staring at Mrs. Fallon's 1972 Mulsanne Blue Chevelle 350 with a white vinyl top. It made one trip per week to church where I saw it and another trip to the grocery store. I paid $650 for my 1972 in 1984. After that I was further tortured by Mrs. Fallon's Chevelle when I took a job at the local service shop. I had to do oil changes on that car. It had 11,xxx miles. I offered her every penny I had but was never able to buy that car.
