Look what I found on my roll bar

I was taking the foam that was molded onto my roll bar off tonight and found this shipping sticker under it. I thought it was kind of cool and thought I'd show you guys a few pictures.

Hickey was huge in the late 60's and 70's. Lots of aftermarket off road equipment.

Re: Look what I found on my roll bar

I found this on a google search. The article was taken from the "Off Road Hall Of Fame" list of inductees. A Vic Hickey was inducted in 1976.

"Vic Hickey wasn't present to accept his award but it would be impossible to ignore his achievements as an off-road vehicle designer. He created the Corvair-powered, four-wheel drive Trail Blazer in the early 1960's and the famed Baja Boot in 1967. He has also built stock Blazers and Oldsmobiles for off-road racing and his firm, Hickey Enterprises, is leader in the four-wheel drive equipment field."

im gonna try to find pics of the blazers they built.

Re: Look what I found on my roll bar

I was going to mention aaron's web site but i see you found it.

That particular catalog is locked away in my storage unit currently.

If i can ever get away from this oil rig i have to go to montrose colorado and pick up a set of K5 fuel tanks you will find in that catalog..one is an original HE and the other is a copy.

I do remember vic trying to sell what is considered by most to be the first blazer built by hickey...prior to any gm copo's and such....it was listed by himself the man on ebay...i never followed the auction to end unfortunately. And unfortunately for us vic passed on a few years ago. Truely a legend in the history of the 4x4 if you ask me.

HE was also responsible for the sidewinder winch...and HE sold the rights in the early to mid 80's to advanced adapters who continued making them for some time before putting production of the winch to rest.

Re: Look what I found on my roll bar

Mr. Hickey lived here in Templeton until he passed away. I came out of my business one day and he was looking at my Jimmy. He told me he actually designed the Blazer and sold the design to GM. He was a genuinely nice guy.
