Driveshaft Question
A friend has a 70 lwb. He is putting a 700r4 tranny in. Can he switch to a one piece driveshaft? Remove the joint in the middle? Thanks

Re: Driveshaft Question
I think it depends on the rearend gears. May get vibration with a 3:08 and a 700r. Of course this isn't the perfect combination so if rear gears are 3:73 or 4:10 don't think a one piece is an issue.

Re: Driveshaft Question
I have TH350 with a Gear Vendors overdrive unit and converted mine to a 1 piece driveshaft. I also have 3:08 gears. It's a shortbed. No problems at all. Just make sure a good driveshaft shop makes the shaft for you.
I had a longbed with a 1 piece driveshaft and a muncie m21 transmission. Never could get rid of the vibration...sold the truck because of it.

Re: Driveshaft Question
I went to a 1 piece on the 71. Works fine, except for where the shaft goes thru the center frame brace. On big bumps, it will hit the brace. You will want to grind off the carrier bearing mount too, or you will be hitting that as well. Jeff.

Re: Driveshaft Question
Truck has 3:08 gears. He is worried about it rubbing on the trailing arms. I think it will be fine. Why the vibration? Would that be the result of an unbalanced shaft?
