GMC oddities
Today I just picked up a freebie 69 GMC and when looking at the glove box option sheet I noticed it was bit odd... take a peek at the wheelbase.. 000?Has anyone ever heard of a Sierra Grande Custom, Custom Sport Truck all in one?.. The fender emblems said Custom, the doors said Custom and so does the outside of the glove box.
I also have a 72 GMC 3/4ton 4X4 that says Sierra Grande on glove box sheet, but the truck only had the Lower wood grain trim and no upper (I have stripped the paint to the bare metal and it never has had any upper trim) It also has the deluxe door panels with the wood grain inserts and a head liner, but no wood grain on the glove box or instrument cluster. Has anyone else noticed little oddities in the GMC's compared to the Chevy's?? |

Re: GMC oddities
It was missing the engine and trans.. no instruments, no windshield or back glass, no tailgate, no inner fenders and only had one bucket seat.. it had the usuall rust for around here and it looked like the PO had started to fix it up, well sorta, they tried welding on floor support caps.. not whole supports but a skin over the rusty ones.. and the rocker panels they tried welding on were not whole panels but partial ones.. a nice attempt but a total parts truck to me. Kinda of a shame since it was a black on black, bucket seat, Sierra Grande.. oh well..
I picked it up for the box, radiator core support, grille and hood.. Sorry... I did not take any pics and... the truck is already completely dissassembled and the junk headed for the scrapper.. |

Re: GMC oddities
My whole truck is odd! New Process transmission instead of Muncie, rear leaf springs instead of coils, Dana rear axle instead of corporate, Stromberg carb. instead of Rochester, and that crazy V-6 under the hood!

Re: GMC oddities
I`ve never seen that exact combination,or any where it wasn`t at least a Sierra where it said it was a Grande on the options.Never seen the door and fender badge.My`72 3/4t 4wd is like yours:Says SierraGrande on the options, has Sierra rear 1/4 script and fender badge, lower moulding-only,and no woodgrain dash.I`ve seen the Chevy names used on GMC options list alot:CST,Cheyenne, and CheyenneSuper.Seen Jimmys with Cheyenne equipt.Chevy didn`t even have Cheyenne Blazers, yet.I`ve seldom seen a GMC that was "well-optioned" that had it all match.

Re: GMC oddities
GMC's are a little odd. Like mentioned above, they used dana's instead of Eaton's, the big block v6's, etc.
I think my truck was a special ordered one. It is all original, but it has a August 1967 305 V6, but August 1968 front and rear ends. No one has ever switched the rear ends out (still looks like original hardware and stuff used) The Rockwell was from '67 too. |
