Dana 60 rear end

Replaced the rear wheel bearings on my 71 C20 today, truck has the Dana 60 rear axle. As far as I know axles with that style of bearing should have a washer with a lock tab between the out side bearing and the nut, then a locking ring , then a lock nut. My truck does not have the washer between the bearing and nut. Should the washer be there and are they still avalible?

Thanks

Re: Dana 60 rear end

My dodge has bearing and only a lock nut. Even on the big trucks I work on, I have never seen a washer between outer bearing and inner nut. A washer with lock tab is found between lock ring and outer nut. Not all full floater (3/4 ton & up) use the lock washer.

Re: Dana 60 rear end

I just picked up a Dana 60 that looks to have never been apart.($75 ) The paint on it still looked factory fresh. When I took off the hub there was(from the outside in) a nut, locknut, nut, bearing.

Re: Dana 60 rear end

My axle is just like Boilrman's nut, locknut, nut , bearing so this may be normal. I also noticed that my drums are held in place by 2 bolts and the drums will come off of the hub without removing the wheel studs. Is this normal for a 71 3/4 ton with the Dana 60? or do I have a different axle in my truck?
