4x4 longhorn

Saw this on ebay kind of interesting.
An almost all original 4x4 Longhorn.
Bet I can guess what the parts are that are not original

Re: 4x4 longhorn

Just about the whole thing isn't original. GM never built a big block 4X4 before 1973 and GM didn't build any 4X4 Longhorns...lol WES

Re: 4x4 longhorn

is it just me, or when the seller says "almost original" he's forgetting the part about GM never having made 4x4's with a BB that year, or never having made a Longhorn 4x4? sounds like either a moron, or a cheat. Mainly what blairs in my head about that is "cheat, scam, liar" and similar words.

Re: 4x4 longhorn

I always thought the idea of a 4x4 Longhorn would be cool...if done right.

Could be, or he could have had the prev. owner tell him the BS as a sales pitch. Either way, I'd still drive around in it. Appears to be a nice truck IMO.

Re: 4x4 longhorn

It may have been a 2wd big block that was converted to 4wd. It has a 14 bolt rear axle that was not original also. Looks nice though.

Looks like a cool truck, probably a big block truck with a 4X4 conversion, like said before, no big block 4X4 trucks, no 133 inch wheel base 4X4 trucks.

that's what I was thinking. Somebody on their end is either stupid, or has a bad sales pitch. At least, I would have stated something about "cool, well done, 4x4 conversion, other parts professionally swapped" or something like that.

It could mean that it`s not from factory, but he built it in a way that looks factory using factory stuff. That`s my style of modifying, build what GM could have.Calling it "almost" becomes an honest description. How many people have original tilt columns in 67s & 68s,or big block`67s,or rallye wheels,or Cheyenne trim & interior on other models?Or,for that matter added any option that is not listed on the VIN-spec sheet?

Re: 4x4 longhorn

Ok,now that I looked at it I will say the seller knows nothing about these trucks and doesn`t realize what he`s saying. It`s an old well preserved original Longhorn big block body with later-model drivetrain. The fan shroud,t-case shifter,14-bolt rear....1ton 4wd`72,you guys missed that one.
How many people here would know 1/2 of what you know about these trucks if you didn`t get on this website?I`ve owned these trucks since`73 and never met anyone that knew as much as me until I came here and I`m still learnin`.I don`t think anyone`s trying to rip anyone off, they really don`t know, like we didn`t.I know it`s not just me that get`s the rolleyes when I start discussing the intricate variations or got excited about a rarity on these "just a trucks"(the under statement of all time).
BTW,Nice truck!!!Huh,guys??

Re: 4x4 longhorn

Could be what I did.Bought an original BB 71 suburban with a bent frame and put it on a 71 4x4 suburban frame that I had.It "looks" like an original.
Like special-K said,it is something GM should have, and could have built if they wanted too.

Like they said above, the seller probably doesn't know anything about trucks, and is just relying on what someone else told them about it (the P/O, their father-in-law, the mailman, Jesus in psychic visions achieved by sniffing paint thinner). Still a nice looking truck that I'd drive, and not worry that 99% of people out there don't know it didnt roll off the assembly line like that.

Re: 4x4 longhorn

To me,the main thing with this truck is:It looks like a real nice factory 4wd Longhorn and that is so cool.
