Red face guess i am going to have to change my name

well the 638 is coming out..needs a 3000.00 freshen up and i am not going to spend anymore money on it..
going to trade down to a lumpy as all getout 496 stroker..
all the constant adjusting & rebuilding every two seasons, is just to much.
i am getting to old and my bad back, and wallet say do something different.
so i guess i will change my name to mightymouse 496...NOT

I HAVE PISSED SO MUCH MONEY AWAY....i am lucky my wife is going to let me do this...i really love my truck. and don't want to ever sell it. so this is about all i can do. what do you's guy's think...mark

Re: guess i am going to have to change my name

I can understand with the downgrade but why not just get a 572 crate instead Man that sucks about doing that kind of a drop but the rebuilding every 2 seasons definately makes a difference on the wallet. Are going to make the truck streetable?

Re: guess i am going to have to change my name

Sometimes you have to step back and look at the big picture to know what you have to do. You have did a lot better than I as you have your money in 1 nice truck. I on the other hand have had 4 different cars ( since winter 93/spring 94) and none of them as nice as your truck. At least you can make a change or two and drive yours on a pretty day and get some satisfaction from a job well done and admiring looks from people passing by. I have had to make some hard choices the last few weeks and when I sell this stuff will be lucky to get .05 cents on the dollar spent. But at age 59 and health going to hell a lot faster than I thought it would I don't have a lot of options. So do what you have to do, thank God for a understanding wife, and drive that truck with pride with whatever engine you put in it. Form where I'm sitting you've damn sure earned it.

Well 496 is a lot to ask of a sbc not sure how long that will live on the street
but it should make for a fun ride.

Pull your rat salvage anything you can, sell it here or to your friends to recoupe some of that cash.

Hope it all works out the way you want it too.

496 is a stroker big block. Will make 550-600 HP easy.

I say go for it Mark, what fun is a truck you can barely drive?? Fast is cool, don't get me wrong, but I prefer to drive 'em.

yea...heres the picture of the first coan converter the 638 chewed up and spit out...850.00 loss
coan would do nothing...and that was just the converter not the cooler or the trans rework, i had the buy a new trans cooler and have the trans cleaned out...from all the scrap metal in every thing...o my i hate to even think
what that deal cost...
then theres the time i blew the 12 bolt rear end out...over reved the engine and broke 12 valve springs plus the rear end...
had to fix the engine and the rear end...

Re: guess i am going to have to change my name

You think they would warranty it if they say it will hold up to the HP they claim. Are you going to keep the rest of the truck the same and just swap out the engines?

Are you swapping anything from the 638 to the new motor other than accesories or will those even bolt up?

Hey 84 400 how does the Edelbrock Thunder Series carb perform for you and do you recommend them for others to try. Also, was it already tuned when you got the setup or did you have to fine tune it yourself?

Re: guess i am going to have to change my name

That is a heck of a deal. Going back on HP sucks and it will never be the same driving that thing again. I guess if you look at the amount of cash you can save, it makes it all worth while. It is a nice truck though, I love the 2 tone blue. My Grandpa had a 82 with that same paint scheme.
