Good body shop in Raleigh, NC area.

Can anybody recommend a good body shop in the Raleigh, NC area? I just went to one today and I could have gotten a new truck for what he told me. Does 6 hours sound right to replace a cab corner on a '72?? I need to get both cab corners, both rockers, and both rear wheel housings replaced.

I have looked around the area and have found no place that is interested in doing restoration work. They are only interested in collision work. You might want to check in some of the smaller towns between the triangle and Charlotte.

No body shop wants to do this type of work, they all want those 2 day insurance work. Some will take it in a use it as busy work, but watch out they may never finish it, and if they do it may take them a couple of years. Good luck and hopefully you will find someone who is willing to do it.

Re: Good body shop in Raleigh, NC area.

Bell ford bodyshop in Mebane NC gave me a decent quote on my truck (3k for paint with the Bed off also fixing my rocker and flatening dings). You may want to check with them. Now back then he was an independant working leasing the shop, I think now he works for the dealer since they just changed ownership... It still may be worth a call.

Re: Good body shop in Raleigh, NC area.

Good luck it seems these days all shops want is Ins. work. This is one reason I started doing resto work in my home shop part time and I am turning guys away right now due to not enough time for everyone. As far as the 6hrs goes I went and checked my log book and the last one I did was 4hrs start to finish but that was on a gutted out cab (no interior time for pulling or covering) and I had to section the corner to get it to fit just right. If it had not needed to be sectioned it would have been about 3 to 3.5hrs.

Re: Good body shop in Raleigh, NC area.

I had the same problem no one cared about doing it, and auto rebuilding shops around here (Reedy Creek NC.) are like flies on cow dung. So I just bit the bullet and replaced them my self. I replaced left front floor panel, left kick panel, lower end of left front pillor, both front cab suports, left and right rockers, both cab corners, and patch 3or4 rusted out holes. The welding was not so pretty at first but got better as I went along ,turn out pretty good, pictures later. EbFabman's 3 DVD Cab repair video set help lot Reconmend highly. http://www.ebfabman.com/

Re: Good body shop in Raleigh, NC area.

I've actually been thinking about trying it myself. I don't have any body work skills but I'm willing to try. I have been to http://www.ebfabman.com/ before but its not up now. Thanks to all for the help.
