Truck Just Started Smoking
I was coming down the northway today and i noticed some smoke behind my truck but it wasent coming from mine. Then I noticed it a couple of mere times. Then I saw it come from the left exhoust when I took my foot off the gas. That is the only tome it does it. What do you think it is. It looks like its white and since its only coming frome one side I would rule out fuel. Man what a way to end a day.

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
fuel in the exhaust would be my guess if it's just 1 side. did it sound different because you might have a bad spark plug, which will let raw fuel out and then it burns off the hot exhaust pipe instead of in the cylinder

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
My first thought was head gasket as well, but be sure to check everything else first.

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
Valve guide seals or a worn valve guide. When you let off the throttle the engine vacuum goes very high, and literally sucks the oil past the guide and seal. The oil burns in the cylinder and you have smoke. Very easy to fix.

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
I've never seen oil smoke burn white. The transmission oil and the anti-freeze will burn white. I would suspect either a bad head gasket or an intake manifold gasket on the side that is smoking. Try re-torqueing the bolts on the intake manifold. Maybe they have loosened up.

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
9 out of 10 white smoke on one side = head gasket.

Re: Truck Just Started Smoking
well its not trans fluid , im running a 700R4, no vacume to trans. Its hard to tell what coller the smoke is tinted windows and dirty mirors. White -gray couldnt tell if there is blue in it. Im thinking valve guide seals, had new guids put in when rebuilt. If it where head gasket wouldnt it afect the running of the motor or power? Dont know, thats why im here. Thanks for the input so far.
