'68 side marker lights missing wiring?

This might be a weird question but here goes, my '68 has the factory side marker lights but no wiring for them. my Gramps bought the truck new and he said thats the way it was from the factory. The backs of the lenses have holes for the light bulbs to fit into. I checked all of the wiring and there is no sign of anything being cut. Should it be this way?

in both 68 and 69, lights were optional, onless you cot a cab/chassis with DRW, then you were forced to pay for the option by the feds.

Andy: What's DRW? Deluxe Rear Window? How would that affect the side marker reflectors?
One time a cop tried to write me up for burnt-out side marker lights. He said his brother -in-law had a '72 just like mine, and _his sidelights worked. I talked him out of the equipment violation, but I still got the speeding ticket.

Re: '68 side marker lights

mine is the same way, kind of. it has the reflectors with the deeper area for the light bulbs, just no holes.
Orange, you should have told the cop to check with Andy.

Andy, when are you going to write a book on this stuff?

Re: '68 side marker lights

My '69 has side marker without lights, too. I bought four lights from another board member and plan to install them. My thought was to wire the rear markers as just running lights and wire the front into turn signals. Anyone else do this or see a problem with doing this?

Re: '68 side marker lights

The berst way to wire the front ones is one wire to the parking light wire, and the other wire to the turn signal wire.
Doing it that way will let it blink when the signal is on (in oposition to the front turn signal) and then burn steady when the parking lights are on with out the turn signal.

DRW.. .Dual rear wheel... when a cab and chassis was ordered with DRW, it had to pass certian DOT laws that a SRW did not need to meet.
