Looking at a 70 sub today, Need assistance!
Looking at a 70 GMC Sub today and besides the rockers what areas should I look into for rust and other problems.
Truck has been sitting for 6 years and was in a fender bender on LH fender before being parked. ( which has me worried). So far only seen pics from RHSide and Front. Thanks for the Advice in advance. Thanks, Thomas

Passenger's side inner and outer fender, passenger's side radiator support and battery tray are nearly always rusted from battery acid.
Check the floor pans on both sides esp the drivers side. Look at the bottom side of all the doors too.

Check the tailgate area also real close. Your hatch or doors and the hinge support areas are also know to corrode/rust bad.

Look at the lower rear quarters as well as the lower area in front of the rear wheels. This is where mine was eaten up the most. Good luck.

Have been watching your posts for some time, as I am from Sugarland and because you have a great looking suburban there. thanks for the pointeres. I did not make an offer yesterday as I did not have time to see if it would turn over, I will call him back today and get more information on just how he lowerd the truck. I do know he said the front end was replaced by a 77 to get the disc, but did not think to ask about the drop. More concerned about how he did the rear drop... I'm going to try to post some pictures... Thanks, Id rather have the photos show up does anyone know how to do this? (EDIT: just figured it out) Thomas __________________

She is rusty. You are looking at a lot of money in bodywork and parts there. You are better off spending more money on another one if possible. If you have to have it I would offer not more than 1500 dollars if it is running.

67Mach1, Looks like the usual rust spots from the pics you have shared. The only other areas that I might suggest checking is the cowl/firewall area. Debris usually collects in these areas as well as small critters building nests in the kick panel vents as well. The only other area I can think to examine is the drip rail.
As far as to buy it or not... How much time, money, and patience are you wanting to put into the project before you get to enjoy it?

Hey 67Mach1
Just looking at the pictures you posted and the list of what has been done so far to the suburban. The first thing is this is a GMC suburban which is harder to find, It has dual factory air, split back hatch door (not barn doors) It has a disc brake conv in the front and the body looks to be in better condition than most. I don't know what your abilities are on the body work. By the looks of it the body it only needs a few patch panels. I personally would buy this suburban for myself because it was a GMC. Best of luck |
