should I buy it?
I found a 72 chevy 4x4 for 1,200
new tires....but inside the cab where the sunvisors are just above the windshield is rust. holes big enough to put my fingers in. It isn't rusted ont the outside but where the windshield rubber is at. the floor is in good shape cab corners replaced...not a good job. bed looks good. It almost seems like the cab would need replacing and I don't want to have to replace a cab. what do you guys think of the deal? |

Re: should I buy it?
I'm just the first guy to reply, and not the most experienced at that. But...
1200 is cheap for a 4x4 truck like that. I'd half want to get it for the drivetrain if it runs well. I don't know how/if other guys have fixed rust like that above the windshield. I wouldn't bother, cab-wise. There are plenty of cabs out there that are a lot better off. I have two. Changing a cab isn't all that hard if the rest of the body is in good shape. Check out the rest of the truck and make sure that you're not going to be fixing more than just the cab. Look under the doors, check the radiator support, etc. If all that's shot, well, then you're pretty much looking at building a whole new truck on an existing 4x4 frame. Probably not worth it.

Re: should I buy it?
Werewolf covered it well.As he said,It`s worth the price for the drivetrain alone. The section of cab that`s rusted is called the header panel. They are available. If nowhere else, from LMC.You`ll have to weigh the overall condition of the cab as far as rust repair goes and decide whether to repair or replace.A rustfree cab is a tough find in the east. That rust is from the sealing putty in the gutter failing. It`s possible and likely you`ll find rust down inside the cowl or at the bottom corners of the windshield.Basically water has been able to flow through the truck and out somewhere.Check the area at the base of the kick panel, too. These areas can be rusted even on a truck that survived the typical rocker/cab corner/support rust.

Re: should I buy it?
Just about everything on these trucks is available in a reproduction part,
including the header / roof pan thingamabobber, pic's would help us with assesing the value better but $1200 sounds cheap enough, & remember LMC has the pretty exploded view catalogs, but OUR VENDORS will beat them on price just about any day of the week, best of luck to you
