Power Window problems on my 84

OK, heres the deal. I'm a newbie, you can tell by my small number of posts. I bought this 84 C10 that had been sitting in a body shop for the last 2 years. An overall paintjob was done and everything was still apart. I had to put the doors back on, have glass installed etc. Once I got the doors together the power windows weren't working. So I diagnosed the driver side as a bad motor(The motor would run, but the gear would not move) So I replaced that along with the belt molding and the run channel which by the way was all in brand new GM packaging behind the seat I then noticed that someone had plugged the power lock connector to the window motor on the passenger side which seemed like a quick fix. After that problem was fixed the window went down, Once and never would go back up. I assume its a bad motor and I put a new one in. well, same problem, window would move down, but not up.(Driver and Pass switches) I got frustrated and left it alone for awhile. I come back to it later, and the damn window goes up once, and now will not go down. Does anyone have a Schematic so I can try to see how this system works? when the switch is pushed either way, both wires going to the motor have 12V, It seems to me that this should swap power from down to up Correct? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Re: Power Window problems on my 84

I don't have a schematic for you but I can tell you this. The power windows work up or down by swapping the polarity one wire hot and the other grounded to go up and reversed by the switch working a relay that swaps the power and ground to go down. Also the power of the passenger side door window relay has to go through the master switch on the drivers side door so if either one of the drivers door switches are connected wrong or bad the passenger window won't work right. you will see power at both sides of the motor when you test it while it's plugged because there is power going into the motor and power traveling from the other side to ground. if you unplug the connector you should only have power to one wire at a time. If you still get power to both while it's unplugged check for a bad switch or faulty wiring or relay. Hope this helps.
