350 oldsmobile engine swap
a friend of mine has a oldsmobile engine and want to put it into a 81 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 was wondering if the mounts would work from a 350 chevy engine or do you have to get the mounts for the 350 diesel

Re: 350 oldsmobile engine swap
I have not done it, but I have seen others on the board say that you need Diesel mounts.

Re: 350 oldsmobile engine swap
hi Tommy ,
fitting an Olds engine instead of a Chevy engine won't work just like that ... the tranny patterns are different , so you'll need a BOP ( Buick , Olds , Pontiac ) tranny , unless you have one of those rare "universal trannies" ( which fits BOP & Chevy engines ) , but they were only released in the eighties , I think ... The only trannies you'll find for your 4X4 truck to be fitted with an Olds engine are indeed the TH400 which were coupled to the 350 Diesel engine ( 1977-1981 ) for the engine mounts , any Olds engine mounts will do the job , not only Diesel mounts ... Cheerzzz the Baron

Re: 350 oldsmobile engine swap
They do sell adapter plates to fit a Olds engine to a Chevy tranny. If you are inclined enough, you can also make one as well.
From what I can remember, you will need the olds mounts. the baron is right that any Olds mounts will work. I have always wanted to plant an Olds in a Chevy. I love Chevy, but I just don't seem to have the luck with engines like I have with Olds. I would love to put a 455 under the hood of a Chevy truck. The Olds have some wicked torque which is exactly what I want in a truck. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
