Blazer Seats

Does anyone know which models seats will work for a 75 Blazer? I know 73 thru 75 are similar, but someone else told me that thru 1980 models would work to. Is that true? Mainly, will the seats bolt in correctly.

Or, does anyone have experience with putting in a totally different seat - how do you go about getting it safely secured? I am concerned with drilling new holes for a different bolt pattern. Afraid the seat will not be safe.

For a direct replacement pretty much any seat will work from '73 - '86. They all mount the same. The '87-91's mount differently. I designed these brackets to mount the '87-91 seats to a pre '86. If you are interested I can make you some also. It uses the existing mounts with no drilling.

Thanks Chris. I will broaden my search thru 1986 models. I assume the brackets can be took off from, say a 1986 model seat , and bolted onto my 1975 seats and then bolt down on the floor?

I would use the brackets from your '75 seats, and bolt your new seats to them. The passenger side bracket is a little different on the 73-77 seats, as they dropped the floor down in '78 for more rear leg room. With a small amount of drilling, I put seats from an '87 Sub in my '75 Blazer, usint the Blazer brackets.

I don't have the brackets for my 75. I found some seats but they didn't have brackets. I figure I will probablyhave to buy the seats to get the brackets.

Do you know exactly what is different on the passenger seat after 1977? Is it the lift handle at the back of the seat, or are the main floor mounts different as well?

IIRC, the rear mount on the 78-newer seats has a hook that grabs a pin in the floor pan. On the earlier models, there is a striker that bolts above the floor and can be shimmed up. The lift handle is at the back of the seat on the 77 and older seats, I think it is on the right side on the newer ones.

On that note, I put a pair of 95-up chevy truck buckets in my 77 Blazer by drilling a few extra holes, and reinforced them with grade 8 body washers. It worked fine, but I didn't drive the truck a whole lot afterwards, either. I did use the brackets that came with the seats. The 88-up trucks have a flat floor, like the Blazers do. I think you could probably use 99-up truck seats too, and they have shoulder belts contained in the seats. That would be great for going topless.

Yes, you can use the 99+ seats in a "Blazer" but you can not use them in a 73-87 truck. You will have to use the brackets that come on the 99 seats due to their design.

It's much easier to adapt the 95-98 GM truck style seats...

I've got 2002 Silverado buckets in my 75. BOLT IN! I made similar brackets that captkaos built. Basically Brackets to bolt to the existing holes in the floor and then the brackets to the seats. As you can see from mine the seats line up really nice to the stock console. They won't flip forward on the passenger side like the stock ones will, but there is enough travel in the silverado tracks and the seat back folded forward, it's still enough room for an adult to get though there. Take a look at mine:

If using 95 to 98 truck seats, and 99 plus, do that bolt right down, or do you have to modified something?

I just drilled a couple extra holes, and they bolted right down. Make sure you use Grade 8 bolts.

Psst...i'm assuming you used the thick and wide fender washers under the floor to spread out the load?

When I swapped my new seats in from the Taurus SHO I used some steel plate with the washers as well.

I would like to see a picture of that seat folded and moved all the way forward just to see how much room you get. They changed the Blazer seats in 86 or 87 to function that way. It seems like you get way moer room for getting into the back than with the tilting seat.

If you happen to run across a 95 GM extra cab truck grab the seats. That was the first year for that interior style that didn't have a third door. The passenger seat is flip and fold on this year only.
