Can you put 400 heads on a 350? Other than the steam holes in the 400 heads they should fit right??

I think so...but they are probably worth more to a 400 SB owner than to you as a modified engine guy. They are rare as they were bad to crack (so I've heard).

most parts from 265-400 will interchange if you can swing it I like to go with 64cc heads little more cumbustion, & compression.

I'd have to agree with Model 12.Sell them to a 400 owner and buy some good performance heads.

Have them magnafluxed before you spend a nickle on them, and don't use them because you think they are bigger or better than 350 heads. Chevy did NOT make a performance version of the 400. It was built to make gobs of torque from idle to 2500 rpm and peak horspepower (not much) at maybe 3500 rpm. Also, the combustion chambers are 76cc, so you'd need flat-top pistons with a 350 to get 9:1 compression.

Plus, they are probabbly 882 heads, which aren't woth jack.

Here's the deal...I am building a 400...bored .60 over 292 Comp Magnum Cam, Keith Black Pistons etc etc. Well if the motor doesn't come out the way I want it...I was wondering if I could use the heads on another small block...they are already set up 2.02/1.60 Manley Stainless Valves, RV springs, new guides/keepers all the works. So they are done..just wanted to know if they can be used on anything else.

Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman.
