Seen a sad site yesterday.
I looked at a neglected 1980 Chevy Sport SWB Fleetside yesterday . The truck still had the hood ornament but the glovebox tag was gone . The bumpers had been painted silver but the rubber pad was still in place and you could see the red paint under the silver . It had been painted (poorly) but you can still see the old striped areas . It was still two toned in red though . The seat was a newer blue seat and the top end of the engine was removed . Sad looking . I think if it still had some method of identifying it as the Sport , it would be worth trying to bring it home . I feel certain it could be bought cheaply . Frank

Re: Seen a sad site yesterday.
I always hate to see those poor deprived chevys. makes you think about all the trucks you have owned and the care they got and how abused that poor truck is. You just have to face the facts. You can't save them all! You must choose the ones that are worth saving, and give them the life they deserve. Just try to put the others out of your mind. If you wish you can pray that they will be reborn as a new chevy truck that will be cared for.

I know that feeling.. Last week I when coming home from work I passed an 81-87 Silverado Stepside that has been sitting for who knows how long. It was grown over with weeds and I wouldn't have noticed it had it not been for the fact that the property had been sold and they were just starting to clear it for a housing development. I took a quick look at it, the body doesn't seems too bad, no rust that I can see but, hard to tell for sure in the rain with the weeds and vines that first day I saw it. I figured what the heck and tracked down the current property owner, it was a holding company in another state. I spoke to 3 different people. I got a call from the property manager this morning and she said it was all mine I could have it as long as I took the whole thing. I don't really need it, it doesn't have a title, and the wife will kill me for bringing home a 3rd truck. I just couldn't let it sit there and rot besides.. a free stepside you can't turn those down.

Re: Seen a sad site yesterday.
I'll get it one way or another, If I don't haul it home, I'll at least get it hauled to the yard. I am accuinted with the owners. I'll take what I can and they can have the rest.
I am going to stop buy and have a look at it again today or tomorrow, I'll clear some of the vines and weeds and snap a few pictures.

Re: Seen a sad site yesterday.
Well I stopped and looked at it on the way home. I pulled some of the weeds away. The body is a different story upon close examination (closer than 10 feet) not in the rain. Pretty much every panel is rusted through some where. The tailgate is bent the stepside fenders are rusted through in spots. It's not a saver unfortunatley. The engine is taken apart, top end is gone. It's been sitting with the windows open for along time too.
RPO sticker is missing from the glove box door. Emissions sticker on the core support says it's an 81. It's got an 81 bumper with turnsignals but it also got dual headlights. It also got electronic cruise contorl instead of vacuum Which as best I can tell from the LMC catalog that's an 83 thing. There are some parts I can use. Some interior stuff mostly. It's got a Tilt Column, I can use one of those in the 79, i think an 81 will fit. Won't it? based on the rough conition, I'll probably have the yard pick it up and take some parts off of it. Here are the pictures.

Re: Seen a sad site yesterday.
Speaking of sad sites, I was just over to my friends grandfathers/uncles farm (a minute walk up the road from his house) which I found out is a graveyard for 70's and 80's gm cars and truck's. There's probably 30 or more cars there and probably atleast 15 trucks from 73-87. Some are complete trash but others look restorable, I'm getting some parts from there (mostly trim), some whole trucks are tempting to take because aparently some are getting sent to the crusher soon. Ah well I'll be out there soon for a day with my truck and a tool box stripping them. There's also some 58 impala's (I think ones a biscaynne) and some other more interesting things around. These are but a few pics:
