Guages

Well i am now ready to put in my new autometer guages. I have never worked on or installed any guages, so any tips on hooking them up would be great, but i think i have most of them except a few questions. My truck never had guages in it, just the wiring harness. Does anyone have a skematic of which color wire does what? Or at least which posistion does what.

I do not have any wires at the sending unit for my fuel tank. How does this hook up?

Also i have a TH350 Trans, and a new speedo cable. I put the trans in over the last weekend and am now putting in the new speedo. The cable does not hook up. Its almost like the speedo cable is holding itself up from getting to the guages. There is a stopper on the cable and it is too short so the threads never reach the speedo. Have any of you had this trouble with any speedo cables, in case it matters I got the cable from Brothers

Thanks for the help

Go to the elecriacal section of the board, there is a sticky at the top of that page that has a diagramn in it. I can't remember if it's for gauges or dummy lights.

Re: Guages

Go to the FAQ Submissions page and look on the Index thread, there should be a link to the FAQ you need.

Re: Guages

I just installed a complete set of Autometer Ultra-lite gages in my '68 and I purchased everything from Jeg's. Painless Performance Products has a dash harness specifically for this setup that you can buy at Jeg's or anywhere else for roughly $60 (Part numbers 764-30301 and 764-30302, depending on whether your using a cable driven or electronic speedo). I used it because all of the wires are already cut to length, routed to where each meter is supposed to go (so there's no confusion), everything is color coded (so you know which ones provide a common hot, ground, or illumination inputs), and it gives a really clean final result. Check it out if you're interested.
