Thin Whitewall/Wide Tire Q?:

What`s the biggest narrow whitewall tire made?It seems the standard tire companies stop at 235/75x15.What I have is a shortbed that`s got a 4/6 drop and 8" wheels and I want to run narrow white wall/wider tires in a 60 or 70 series.Does anyone have a source?I`d like at least 255/70s,but more like 275 Fr/295 Rr.I want to run stock full wheel covers/whitewalls/low/fast...get the idea? It`s my own version of an El Cheapo not so rat rod.

Re: Thin Whitewall/Wide Tire Q?:

I dont know if they still do it but 20 some years ago a place where I bought tires that also did thier own recaps had a machine to shave the white walls and I saw them take white letter tires and shave them down to make white walls out of them. There is white under the black on the side wall all the way around the tire, not just at the letters. I would guess someplace could make you a set from white letter tires if they had this machine.

Re: Thin Whitewall/Wide Tire Q?:

Boog,I don`t thik so.They mostly have replicas in original sizes, like Universal Tire.I called Diamondback Classics and he said,"No problem".They can have them ready in 1-2 weeks, since they`re special-made.I`m going with the replica of the "Wide Oval" 3/8 whitewall that came on a few cars for a short while. They will be 275/60x15 radials @ $189 each.
Rstewart09,You are right, almost every tire made has white belts under there.I know a guy that had the machine and was customizing people`s tires. He could write anything you wanted, like:BIG EFFIN`TIRES,or BADYEAR,whatever. And,he could dye the letters alot of different colors.

Re: Thin Whitewall/Wide Tire Q?:

I played around with some on a Cheyenne SWB. The biggest I could find was one size over stock, but very reasonable. So, I put them on 7" ralleys so the sidewalls wouldn't be pulled out more than the tread.

Re: Thin Whitewall/Wide Tire Q?:

James, that was eons ago, sorry.I`m sure the service is available somewhere.
Hey Frank, that`s what I`m sorta going for,but bigger.A kind of second glance look.At first, you`ll see an ol`boy truck with the stock full wheelcovers and whitewalls(even some red peeking between tire & cap. But,I`m using 8x15 oem-center wheels that I had powdercoated red and 275/60s like SeeTen had on his red truck w/Rallyes.That,and an ECE 4/6 kit. It`ll be satin white with a red roll`n`pleat interior and the metal will be painted red along with the inside of the bed.I have an old white snap on tonneau from a truck I had,SS454 exhaust tips,3.42 posi, and M20.I`m going for a low-budget look in a hi-performace truck, something different but kinda "Rat".
