Update on my dash mod

My wife and child have been out of town for over a week now (her dad just had a triple bypass )... so I've had lots more time to actually do work on the truck.

Here's how far I am as of this evening--

Where are you gonna put the six tons of junk that have by law to be carried in any cars glovebox....torch, tire compressor, bag of fluffy toffees, spare parts, the unidentifiable bits left over from the last little job you did etc...? LOL

Yes, the dash is made of fiberglass laid over a framework that's been welded to the stock dash. I'm not real happy with the bottom extrusion (the part in the middle that pokes down below the regular dash line) so I think I'm going to cut that part out and do something a little different to the framework underneath so it will be straight across on the bottom like the stock dash is.

Obviously I've also got some more filling and sanding to do to get it completely straight, but that part's been pretty easy.

And, that is a new aftermarket dash pad. It still bolts on top just like it would on a regular dash. For the IP, I'm hoping to find somebody who'll whittle one out of aluminum for me. I'm planning for a minimalist approach, so something like the 2 gauges I posted here, along with the factory ignition (only it needs to be in the aluminum piece, like where the rightmost small gauge would go on a stock one). I'm still thinking out the details of that part...

As for the things required by law... "we don't need no stinkin' laws"

I took that bottom lip out so the bottom edge would be straight all the way across, and I've put a semi-final skim coat on it. I need to give another once over and then I'll squirt it in primer just to block it down and make sure it's straight. I am planning to cover the dash in vinyl, which is a pretty long way off at this point. Man, I need to find somebody to do the bodywork on this cab! And I've even saved up some money too...

are you going to make a flush mounted glovebox, or something along those lines or are you leaving it smooth all the way.

Completely smooth except for the bezel.

Wrapping it up. I still need to clean up the bottom edge a little bit, but it's almost done...

Hey man..... Good job!!!! That mod looks killer, I wish I would have thought of that on my truck before I finished it. Looks like it will turn out awesome.
