How to ID a 68 anniversary Truck?

I was given a 68 longbed truck about three months ago. Didnt think much of it because it was a non runner and no title. Now I think it might be an anniversary truck. It is gold with a white top, V8, three speed, non a/c, with helper spring, LWB, hsd custom badges on doors. It also came with an emissions system on the 307.

Had planed on parting it out but if it is an anniversary truck is it "more valuable" than any other truck.

SO, how would I know about the anniversary status and is an anniversary truck more valuable than an non anniversary truck?

It should have paint code 551 and interior code 625.
You find the codes on the build sheet or the glove box door sticker.

If it's painted white under the lower trim, that is another clue. 'Normal' trucks are same color as above the trim.

50th's should also be a Custom or CST.

I'd bet your's is a 50th. As far as value is concerned, If were an unmolested survivor I think it adds somewhat to the value. For an old rusted out hulk it's not going to make any difference. Have any pictures on hand?

That 2 tone was a normal option, could be had on any truck in 67/69 other than a step side.

If the option sheet is gone, and the build sheet is MIA too, then the only way you'll be able to tell, is by what is left there.

You already determined it is gold and white.
Already determined it has the Custom option package
Is the seat (seats) gold and white 2 tone? (only on the 50th)
Is the dash pad and sun visors gold? (again, 50th only)

That's about it.

Thanks for the imput. The seat is gold but it also looks to be a recover. My other computer has the photos of the truck on it and it is flaking out right now so no pics until It can be fixed, or i go to the farm and take more.

under the belt line I think it is gold also. so that would mean either a repaint or it is not a 50th. Will check the codes next time I am there also, The short bed shown above is very nice truck as area all the 50ths shown. Great color combo.

She is not a rust bucket at all. Very solid, infact I had decided to take the front clip and rebody my 67 GMC to Chevy Status. W/out a title the truck as a whole was not appealing ot me, if it is an anniversary truck though... well I dont know as getting a title might be very difficult.

As far as other parts I am amazed at how origional the truck is. Down to the air cleaner and 2bbl carb, all emissions stuff is still there, as is the origional spare tire hung under the bed.
in the glove compartment, ALL records up to about 1985 of every oil change, tire purchase, and even mileage estimates he was getting while driving for a delivery company.

Certainly not going to argue with "the man". I was only repeating what I thought I understood from other posters. I realize that 2-tone was an option for all trucks. I thought they only had the white on the roof, not below, like the 50th.

nope, you could get them either way, just not very common in 67/68

This is not a 50th.It is the same paint scheme and a`68.It is a Custom.The interior is black.That is the only way to tell(which can only be verified on build-sheet or VIN-spec sheet).So,to find a 50th with a good interior is the challenge.It could be redone to duplicate.I guess I could have done that and called mine a 50th.I had buckets and a console (`70) in black to match what was there,so...I wasn`t trying to build a clone.But,this is the paint scheme.

I convinced my other computer to come to life this morning to check the photos and I dont think it is going to be an anniversary truck. The Door panels and dash were not white and or gold as seen in the photos of examples. Seemed to be more of a light tan. Not the buckskin that I have seen but definatly not the gold color either.

Thanks for the help though and when I get a chance to see it in person I will check the glove box.

Hey Longhorn Man, we've had this discussion before....about 3 years ago! LOL

Here is a post that was made in another thread back then by tom68cst,

"I think if you see a 68 with the off-white/gold/off-white combo you can be pretty sure it's a 50th. That 2-tone paint scheme with off-white below the molding was only available on the 50ths in 68. The normal 2-tone paint scheme fo 68 just had the top of the cab off-white."

You weren't sure then.....are you sure now about the 2 tone stuff? Remember, I'm not trying to pick a fight.....this is for our continuing education.

I can't proveit at this moment, but there has been a few assumed 50ths found, had the paint codes... or one number off, but with tan seats listed.
2 tone was avalible, some one will have the proof on here.

Proof is the short bed in the picture I showed.It was factory with a black interior.Is someone thinking this two-tone scheme was only available in Gold & White and only on a 50th?No one has ever seen an original 67 or 68 with the accent color below the moulding?

OMG that's an old quote there! If I said it it must be TRUE! LOL

I have quite a lot of 67-68 advertising material and I've never seen a totally stock 67-68 with white below the trim except for the 50th's. Only white cab tops.

I think 69's and certianly 70's had the option of having white below the lower trim as part of the two-tone scheme.

Oh boy , this is my second favorite topic . My 68 cst gold w/ white cab and white lower is not a 50th according to the codes , the second line on my glove box i.d. is 4555AD saddle / off white . My truck does however have the gold dash pad and visors . I have to agree with Longhorn , i'm pretty sure my lower has been painted by previous owner, not factory , although it must have been done a long time ago . This particular truck came from Calif and is totally original , with no rust , everything is like factory , not all cut up . Too bad it's not a 50th.

I don`t have the truck anymore.Yes,I re-did it and it was this way when I got it in original form.The paint codes listed the colors and I went by those codes when I bought the paint.I assumed all along the lower white was factory,but it could have been painted after the factory,but around the time the truck was new.If so,the moulding was removed to do the paint work,then re-installed.The VIN-spec sheet did not indicate anything but the two colors,no deluxe,conventional,or standard 2-tone.So,mine could have been painted like Doug`s may have been.It`s amazing what I continue to learn about these trucks after being into these trucks as long as they`ve existed.I`m glad I didn`t sell the truck on Ebay,cuz I would have been the guy claiming it was painted as factory and not know wtf I was talking about.I would not have been trying to pass it off as a 50th,though.My neighbor I sold it to thought it was the factory scheme and I guess the current owner thinks it`s factory,too.

I wonder if you could spec the 551 gold color exterior and spec another interior color besides the usual gold/white interior?

I wonder if specifying the two-ton 551 option would get you the white paint below the trim automatically?

It would be interesting to see the option sheet on your old 68 special K!

I wonder the same thing,Tom.I just assumed that you could,based on my truck.But,not sure about the lower paint,now.I trust your view.I never had a reason to doubt before.I may be able to track the truck down.I sold it to my neighbor a few years ago.He decided he wanted a truck that he could build custom and didn`t want to defile this one(I may have influenced that a bit ).So,he sold it last summer.I can ask where it went and try to look it up.

I was looking in the '68 GM Restoration Guide and under "Other Optional Equipment, Paint, Exterior:" it says to see "Cabs, Bodies & Colors section"...you guessed it...that section is not provided in the Restoration Guide...LOL!

cause i know some first gen camaros from LA have them under the gas tank but where on trucks

If your seat is original to the truck, check the webbing in the back support; or possibly behind the gas tank in the cab
