I have a 1971 C-10 and would like to piece together my own rear disc swap (don't feel like paying $500 for something you could piece together cheaper)

I will be making my own caliper bracket but I am stuck on what rotor to use.

What rotors have a 5 on 5 lug pattern that I could use for this swap?

93-96 caprice rears were discs. You could use the front rotor off of a 4x4 chevy truck, bu that would require machining of your axle hat

weren't all the 4x4 rotors 6-bolt rotors?

Oops...yeah...Do a search for a thread by dennis something in the suspension forum. lots of good info there. The regular chevy truck front rotors would owrk with machining

76-78 Cadillac Seville were 5" x 5" ... but they do require machining of the axle hat.

$500 is VERY CHEAP compared to a stay in the hospital

I already have a set of the ElDorado calipers. I was going to use them for my rear disc swap on the 14-bolt in my K5 but ended up not using them b/c I never used the parking brake. I think I am gonna try out the Seville rotors...I can source them for only $15 a piece and all I have to do is measure and have my machinist CNC my caliper brackets... any other ideas? keep em coming..I am getting one Seville rotor this after noon and will try to get to my shop to test fit them tonight...

The seville rotor will NOT fit the stock axle hats. You will need to machine the outside diamter by abotu .050 - .075" ... you will also need to machine the center "nub" approximately the same amount.

I did this mod several years ago and that is the best I can remember how much that needs to be machined off.

I figured I would have to machine the axle shaft hats a bit...I have a set of Superior ChroMo axles for the axle so there is no time like the present to take them to my machinist and have them milled down a bit.

LOL ... probably not the proper term, but it was all I could think of when I replied.

I was referring to the 2.000" -2.500 round portion at the center of the axle that protrudes thru the center of the brake drum then it is mounted.

Roger that ... that would also be the best way. Have them machine the axles to fit the rotor ... and then have them take an extra .025 -.050" off both diamters in case you ever have to replace the rotor. Considering the rotors are cast, those same surfaces on one rotor may vary with the next rotor.

Easier to take a little extra off the axles now, as opposed to having to disassemble the rear-end when the time comes to replace the rotors.

I would ask the machinist to do this in a lathe. This way, both diameters will be concentric (run true) to one another as they will both be machined at the same time.
