Homebrew 12-bolt disc swap??
I have a 1971 C-10 and would like to piece together my own rear disc swap (don't feel like paying $500 for something you could piece together cheaper)
I will be making my own caliper bracket but I am stuck on what rotor to use. What rotors have a 5 on 5 lug pattern that I could use for this swap? thanks, Chris |

93-96 caprice rears were discs. You could use the front rotor off of a 4x4 chevy truck, bu that would require machining of your axle hat

76-78 Cadillac Seville were 5" x 5" ... but they do require machining of the axle hat.

$500 is VERY CHEAP compared to a stay in the hospital

Re: Homebrew 12-bolt disc swap??
The seville rotor will NOT fit the stock axle hats. You will need to machine the outside diamter by abotu .050 - .075" ... you will also need to machine the center "nub" approximately the same amount.
I did this mod several years ago and that is the best I can remember how much that needs to be machined off. |

I was referring to the 2.000" -2.500 round portion at the center of the axle that protrudes thru the center of the brake drum then it is mounted. |

Easier to take a little extra off the axles now, as opposed to having to disassemble the rear-end when the time comes to replace the rotors. I would ask the machinist to do this in a lathe. This way, both diameters will be concentric (run true) to one another as they will both be machined at the same time. Last edited by Shane; 07-19-2006 at 08:28 PM. |
