Need a hitch quick!

I need to tow a truck on saturday, and I need a hitch installed. I have been working some pretty horrible hours, and don't have time to get one and install it myself. Can anyone point me toward a company that might have a hitch for a 70 C20?

There is a place down the road called the hitch house, but the people at the counter say their books only go to "80 something"......if anyone has bought a hitch from this place, and can give me a part number it would be appreciated.

I guess U-haul could be an option, but I feel like I have heard bad stories about their install quality.

Can you borrow a buddy's truck or something?

When I needed a hitch for my '71 I went to u-haul, I forget the price, but the hitch they said if fit '67 to '88 pick ups? I needed to drill an extra hole in each frame rail to install it though, I still got the hitch in my basement. and you know what they say "when you want something done right, you have to do it yourself"

What I did was get a 73 and up hitch. Then I got two pieces of 1/2" steel plate about 6" square. The two side pieces that bolt to the frame then to the cross piece I reversed. The steel plates I drilled holes in to match the pattern on the cross piece ends. With the spacer plates installed between the sides and the sides reversed, the holes lined up on the frame and I just needed to drill one more hole in the frame. I realize you don't have the time, but you could get a hitch installer to do the same. Best of luck.

find a place in your area that is a putnam dealer. the one they make for our trucks fits very nice (i think).

Uhaul is a rip off!!!!!!!!!!!!! Order one from one of the 200 companies on the internet that offer a hitch for you truck....several are listed above. Pay extra to have it drop/shipped and or overnited. Spend Friday night installing it and wiring it.
Those generic hitches for a 67-72 are normally the same as the 70's and early 80's chevys and should cost about $100 pluss shipping. Uhaul probably wants $250+

You will have to drill a couple of the holes in the frame so a 5/8 metal drill bit will be needed

Usually, I would agree that Uhaul is a ripoff but......I went to my local Uhaul and he had a discontinued hitch that was made for my 70 C20.....really nice hitch....installed for $169.00 out the door! It was a smoking deal!

Personally, I love the Early Classic kit (I am sure it is available elsewhere too).
For $209 you get this:

No wiring, just bolt it up to the frame (some drilling required) and go.
A late nite project, but not hard. Would be worth it IMO. Plus, it looks clean.

You do have to cut a whole in you tag mount plate though. So a sawzall or die grinder+cutting wheel is necesarry.

And like mentioned, if you want it, you can get it. I have paid next day air on plenty of parts. It costs, but hey, when you gotta have it...
