A few questions
I have a few questions for you all before I get rolling.
1) Im about to start ordering rubber for my project truck and in the catalog there is an option for 68-72 std cab w/large rear window, 68-70 deluxe cab or 71-72 deluxe cab. I have a bare '72 cab but im not sure how to tell if it is the std or deluxe version. Any ideas? 2) I am doing an LT1 swap and was curious if you could either put a fuel pump IN one of the blazer conversion tanks or if not would an exterior pump be advisable? 3) Im using the rear end out of a '96 Caprice due to the fact that it is posi and has discs and I am wondering if I could use the Caprice booster and MC or do I need to buy an aftermarket one? I have the front disc conversion sitting in a box waiting to install. 4) I have the stock motor mount stands in place but im not sure what mounts I need to seat the LT1. Thanks for the help! BTW, Im thinking of naming my project Wooden Nickel due to the fact that im installing a wood bed and during disassembly I found a mint condition nickel of the same year as the truck.

Re: A few questions
I'm not positive about the deluxe thing, but I thought that meant if you have the trim below the window. Not sure exactly.
I would keep the fuel pump outside the tank, mostly for easy access. Don't have an answer to your other questions. By the way, what catalog are you using? Use one of the vendors from the board. It'll help the board and it will save you money. I use www.christiansclassics.com but I know there are some other good guys on here. He's just the closest to both of us and he's a really NICE guy.

Re: A few questions
I was looking in the Truck and Car Shop catalog. They have decent prices on what I have compared so far and free shipping on orders $250 and up. Check page 58 for the weatherstrip kits.
I looked thru the christiansclassics site and couldnt find what i needed. Body mount kit, weatherstrip kit and complete stainless fastener kit. I would love to "keep it in the family" but availability and price are going to win out 90% of the time. Thanks for the input!

Re: A few questions
1. Deluxe is for trucks that have the trim in the window rubber. If your's does not have the trim, do not order deluxe. Sounds like you want 68-72 std. cab big window.
2. Lots of people do in-line pumps mounted on the frame. I don't know if anyone makes one specifically for the blazer/sub tanks. 3 4

Re: A few questions
Just give Tim Christian a call on his toll free line. I'd be willing to bet he'd beat there prices. He usually gives board members a 10% discount also.

Re: A few questions
BowTieOgre This is my theory, on your brake conversion I would use the proportioning valve out of the Caprice or one that is meant for disc/disc and also the master cylinder. The reason being when you have front disc and rear drum the fronts get most of the fluid and the rears kinda back them up. the front is where most of your braking action takes place that's why when you stop really hard the front dips down. When you have rear disc it's almost equal pressure, about 60/40. I would also use the master because the resevours are about the same size because the rear disc need more fluid than a small wheel cylinder in the drum setup. As far as the booster, hell use it too if you can get the push rod to fit on your truck. This is my theory on disc/disc brakes. But I would definitely get that proportioning valve out of the Caprice because that will distribute the fluid at the correct rate.
Now oppose to that Classic Parts (formerly Chevy Duty) sells a full set up for our trucks, Master, Proportioning Valve, and Booster: but it's $329!!! This could allieviate some adapting headaches. I hope this helps, |

Re: A few questions
BowTie I think the stock V-8 mounts will fit the LT-1, I put a Big Block using the stock 350 mounts. Don't the stock mounts have a hole in the middle of the square or rectangular mount? Isn"t the stock mount all rubber with three bolts that mount to the engine block? Then the hole in the middle goes to the single 3/8 bolt through the frame? Well my truck is 4wd, isn't yours?
