New Carburator?

So i just got a new GM crate 350 engine put in. The distributor, alternator, and carburator are still stock. Well my first line of attack is to tackle the Caruburator.

I have a guy around my town that wants to sell me a Rochester Carb. 4barrell..with the manifold and everything for $330ish...is this a good price or can i find better?

Used? Cast iron manifold? Way to much if so.

I'd say too much. Believe you can get a nice Carter for about 180 and a new Edlbrock intake for about or less than 150. Look in Summit or Jegs.

I bought a NEW holley street avenger off of Ebay for $285 (shipped free), the alum intake shouldn't cost you more than 150. That's for new stuff! You haven't said if the intake in YOUR deal was alum, or not. If not then thats too much money for a q-jet and stock intake. If it is alum., I still think it's too much (dpending on the style of intake of course). But I took a perfectly good q-jet off my truck and put on the holley (performer intake). But that is me. It ran better too by the way.
You should be able to go to any speed shops in the area and find out if they have any intakes laying around that are used. You can find some killer deals on dual plane intakes that way. People let them go for almost nothing when they upgrade.
I also would be asking where outlawchevy got that 650 for $210. That's a good deal, even on a basic 650 vac. sec., which is a good carb.

you can buy a reman 4bbl rochester at autozone for 135.00
you can buy a edelbrock dual plane intake for 125.00 at summit
you can buy a new 50,000 volt hei dizzy on e-bay for 90.00

the alt i would buy a internal reg alt for a 86 camaro for 85.00
and buy the conversion plug for another 30.00
all new or reman stuff. not crap to paint or rebuild..

done next!!!!!

I have a '68 chevy longbed-stepside. Its a beauty. I just got a GM crate 350 ..about 290hp...nothing to mean.

I am looking at a new carburator now though.I have a guy i can get a 4 barrell quadajet carb with manifold and everything...between $300 and $350...

just curious. is this a good deal for the manifold and carb and also..will this be what im wanting?Will i notice a considerable difference in 'get-up-and-go'?

I didnt lose it. I am just curious..the guys keeps telling me it is a 'great deal' blahblah..it will give me 50+hp all this crap...but it seems way to much..

but, i guess i will shop around for a better deal. what is 'cfm' ..by the way..clueless and apparently it is a big deal on CARBS

The're blowing smoke and I think most on the board will agree. If you have a carb now and it is badly out of tune then of course you will notice a performance increase.
CFM means cubic feet per minute which is the amount of air the carb will flow at max throttle. I think you might notice a slight increase in performance between a stock manifold and an edelbrock aluminum performer intake with an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb. They are about the easiest to tune and are reliable.

UPDATE:

bought an Edelbrook manifold and 4barrel Edelbrook Carb.600cfm for $400 total..i got it at the local Autozone..i konw i could have ordered and waited but.im not a patient man..so i am close to finishing...i will tell you guys how it runs when its done.

BOY_HOWDY! that thing moves! With that Edelbrock manifold and 4barrel i can feel a tremondous amount of power difference. VERY NICE! Onward to the suspension!
