power steering pump brackets
i've got a '68 with a 350 crate motor. it replaced a 307 that was originally out of a '73 camaro. i want to replace the '73 pump/reservoir with an original "round" typ reservoir in the '68-'72. my 350 has a long water pump and i can't seem to find ANY factory pump brackets that fit a long water pump application. everything on ebay designates a SWP application. did they have long water pumps on the 350's in those trucks? the '73 bracket has that huge elephant ear of a slotted bracket out to the right side (when facing the motor).... it has no purpose for my application. my guess is i'm missing a piece that connects from that bracket back to the motor... but it didn't have it on my old 307 either.... i like the clean set up that the SWP pump bracket has (it wraps nicely around the reservoir and back to the block).
i'd like to find an "original" set up before buying an aftermarket bracket set (like through summit or wherever). any help is appreciated! |

Re: power steering pump brackets
IIRC All factory 67-72 V8 brackets are SWP, as you say 73 and up had
the LWP, here is a pic of the SWP 67-72 style ![]()

Re: power steering pump brackets
i searched the threads and found pics of the brackets set up for LWP. part of the bracket has a square hole in it that they say is for tightening the belt. so, they obviously make the brackets somewhere... where can i find them?
i really like how the pump sitts much lower on the block with the SWP set up... especially when i put AC on it down the road... the pump sits so high with the LWP application, that i don't see how i can put an alernator or AC compressor above it. the alternator is on the passenger side right now. the pics i'm refering to i found at the following thread, not the first picture but the pics posted by Orence1 near the bottom of the thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...g+pump+bracket but maybe that's a big block set up.... shawn Last edited by 68 ReNay; 08-09-2006 at 03:29 PM. |
