Aftermarket Bedsides??

Anybody used a new aftermarket fleetside bedside?? I seem to need one for my shortbed, but don't want to buy junk or one that don't bolt up to a factory bed. Thanks, Greg

Re: Aftermarket Bedsides??

Checked the website, but couldn't find it. The site does not show everything they are supposed to have. Greg

Re: Aftermarket Bedsides??

Aftermarket sheet metal is thiner, weaker and not as well constructed compared to the factory original stuff (which wasn't perfect). That said, original is always better but the re-pop stuff is often a reasonalbe substitute that can be cost effective. If you can find a good original one for less then a re-pop, go that way but expect some tweeking either way.

We no longer sell the fleetside bedsides. We never manufactured them, just bought them from an importer. Check other board vendors who carry them. Considering the difficulty finding original bedsides, the repro is probably your best bet. We always suggest buying from a local supplier where you can look at the part before purchasing it. Sometimes there are quality issues that you could avoid by checking before buying, plus the freight costs are quite high for a pair of fleet bedsides and shipping damage can cause a real problem.

I got two from Chevy Duty. They are very nice. I only found one small wave on the bottom of the panel in front of the wheel well.

Re: Aftermarket Bedsides??

Since the going price for a nice rust free, bondo free bed is nearing a grand, $400 bedsides seem to me to be an excellent alternative. If you can buy from a local classic car parts place, they usually do not charge for shipping, then you can inspect before you buy. Try Mike on the board, can't remember his sig, mbgmike or something like that, his prices are good and he can have them drop shipped to your door.

Re: Aftermarket Bedsides??

Driver side....it's covered with holes/bondo around the clearence light covering most of the rear section. The rear patch panel don't go high enough either.

Thanks to all for the advice. I would love NOS, but I'm already going to be short of money before paint/body work rolls around. Greg

Re: Aftermarket Bedsides??

My brother just bought everything he needed to put together a brand new box short fleet from Chevy Duty...........IMO, the quality is ALOT better than the OEM boxes.

We actually have a fairly decent OEM box sitting here, but we farted around getting the dings and dents out of the inside, we'd be farther ahead with new.
