Re: shifters

hurst makes a couple different shifters, but they are owned by mr. gasket.
unless you have to drive it everyday, might want to consider a 4 or 5 speed tranny.
you could put the "special security" shifter in with 2 shifter sticks up through the floor like my dad used to do, but i don't recommend that.

Re: shifters

I have ran Mr. G's for years on ours............That aren't a short throw comp. stick, but they work well for us. Are you sure you have yours adjusted correctly on the neutral gate? Every so often we could feel them on our trucks not float across neutral correctly, so I'd grab wrenches and adjust it, and we'd run it without any trouble.

Everyone says Hurst's are the best, but from what I can see they look the same other than the stick itself.

Re: shifters

I ran the Hurst Indy shifter (one for our truck years) on mine for 2 years, no problem. Some one else is using it on their truck now and still no problems that I know of.

None of ours never rattled............About the only problem we've had was it loosing adjustment from wear which we could correct, and another thing I didn't like was the shift pattern wore off the knob pretty quickly and it made it a tad hard for the help to find the gear pattern if they were used to running 4 spds in Fords or GM's.

Re: shifters

Hurst makes 2 different model shifters for these conversions. 1 is very cheap the other is very expensive but I hear works great, just like a 4 speed type shifter.

Re: shifters

I run the Hurst Quarter stick, and convinced my dad to put it in his 66 chevy. We both love them. Heres a picture before I installed my bucket seats. Awesome shifter!

I have the Hurst Indy too...I like it, it gets the job done smoothly. I got mine off ebay for like $25 new. You can order them through any online catalog too. Here's a pic too.

Re: shifters

Mine had the same lockup problem... and the shift pattern wore off within a month. The warranty was still good though so I just got another one. Anyway.... I'm at a TH350 with a junkyard auto tranny column.
