Question disc brake swappagde?

I have an option to buy a 1987 chevy 1/2 ton w/ a disc brake set up and power steering set up. I was wondering if this would fit under my 67' 1/2 ton and what possible mods I would encounter?

Re: disc brake swappagde?

swap out the upper and lower a-arms, spindles and steering linkage and install on the existing crossmember....for the p/s just need a REZ Engineering kit and bolt to the frame and "collapse" the steering column shaft and you whould be all set....the only thing with the p/s is that it will be metric and the p/s pup bracket you will have to "manipulate" to get to work. Do you have a short or long water pump?? 87 is designed for long water pump for the pulley setup...

Re: disc brake swappagde?

I have a pump. Are you saying that the hose threads are metric on the 87. I have the short W/P . So I need to go to a long W/P?
I can get the front end parts for $40. I think thats a pretty good deal!

Re: disc brake swappagde?

i believe that the 87 pump threads are metric...i know that the mounting are....but if you are getting the whole assy. it shouldnt matter....just fyi...I believe that you will have to go long w/p for the pulley but i would install and then see how it lines up from there sometimes you get lucky...

Re: disc brake swappagde?

thanx for the info. Will the older style p/s pump work with the 87 steering gear box?
Also looking for A five bolt axle to interchange with the 67 differential, Any clues?

Re: disc brake swappagde?

you can deffinitly make the high pressure hose by just changing the fitting on one side to metric or standard but i don't know if the pump will supply the correct pressure and or volume of fluid to the gear box. you would have to ask someone or do a little research.

as for the rear axle, just get the axles redrilled or purchase a set from ECE

$279 or $319 with seals and berrings.
