(& ofcourse added the bracing) i also wanted to know what you guys did about the original holes that may not have been used? also would like to know all if any of the little secrets to installation?? thanks for any help!! rodstored-72 |

Re: seat install - mounting
Hey I beleive the best way is to put the seat in and and see how it fits to YOU. Then make brackets accordingly. There is no set way of doing it. As for the holes not used either leave them alone, plug them with some kind of sealer(silicone), or you could weld them up. There are several ways of doing this. The best way is doing it with what tools and equipment you have on hand.

Re: seat install - mounting
I just did my seats. Click on my link and you will see how I did mine. I started by placing the seat in the truck and sitting in it to determine the height I wanted. Mine was too high so I cut the brackets off and made new ones. Then I drew lines on the cab floor with a magic marker at the center of the existing holes. When you place the seat in again you can see where the lines meet the seat rails and you can mark the center of where the brackets should go. I bolted the brackets to the seat rail by drilling and tapping the rail. Be sure to reinforce the floor pan of the truck on the bottom side so the bolts won't pull through. I'm not saying this is the only way to do this but it seemed to work for me. Good Luck!

Re: seat install - mounting
all, thanks for the replys & info. i am looking at installing the seats from either a mid '90's or from a '99 & up. i have heard that the mid '90's seats are the easiest to mount. i am looking for info. like from gater 2511. i am pretty sure that i can do it, i just need some ideas on some steps to do it & some "tricks" of the trade... so to speak.
please keep the info & stories of how you did comming!!! thanks again!!! rodstored-72 |

Re: seat install - mounting
I used 2001 chevy truck 40/20/40 seats they lined up really good, i moved the bracket on the center seat 3 inches back, then just centered the middle seat/center console and then installed the driver and passenger seat making them so the mounting holes lined up with the factory ones, had to drill new holes of course, but they sit right on that bump in the floor where the original seat mounted, I don't have any detailed pics but here is a shot with them in.

Re: seat install - mounting
I bought a very nice bench seat out of a mid 90's chevy extended cab with a middle flip up/flip down console that's also a middle seat off of craigslist for $200 & It was easy to install because i could use the stock threaded bolt holes. I'll take a photo tonight if i get a chance & post it for you tomorrow.

Re: seat install - mounting
Do all of you guys with later model seats have the tank removed from the cab? I am planning on leaving my tank in cab and just want to know what my options are seat wise.

Re: seat install - mounting
My tank is in the bed, I have a huge speaker/sub wall built into the back of the Cab where the gas tank used to be, I think with the type of seat I have it might work since the part that lays back is up higher then where the top of the tank would be, but no way to be sure unless you put on in there & see if it would work.

Re: seat install - mounting
That is cool, I am planning on using a 40/20/40 seat out of a 99 or newer chevy pickup which it just so happens my dad has, hmm maybe I need to borrow his truck for the weekend and pull the seat...

Re: seat install - mounting
I had a 60/40 seat that I was gonna put in it, but the middle section had braces that would have to be mounted to the floor, I didn't want to mess with trying to bolt it down above my transmission, so when I came across this one that used the stock 4 bolt holes I was all over it.

Re: seat install - mounting
I could have left the tank in mine and still installed the buckets. I put a fuel cell in the bed just to get it out of the cab. I got rid of the gas tank in the cab, gained more comfortable seats, got headrests built into the seat and got the built in shoulder belts. I figure its a plus all around.
