What tires?
I need new tires on my '72 before winter. I'm shopping around at Discount Tire, Les Schwab, Tires Plus (Big 0) and 4wheelparts.com. What has been recommended so far is:
Discount - Goodyear Pathfinder A/, $134/tire, 60,000 mile warranty Schwab - Toyo Open Country, $139/tire, 60,000 mile warranty 4wheelparts - ProComp A/T, $500.97 for all for on current buy three get one free promo, 50,000 mile warranty (these will be shipped to me then I'll need to take them to the store for mounting & balancing). Tires Plus - Sierra Radial - all for for $493.65 (no idea what these are) Tires Plus - Chaparal Radial - all for for $389.42 (again, no idea what these are) Right now, I'm leaning toward the ProComps. The price seems right and they are a nice tire with a nice tread pattern. Does anyone have any experience with these tire? Any suggestions?

I've had several sets of the pro comps and love them. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again. There is a store across from " The Keg " in lynnwood. They honor all deals from the magazines.

I go with the best tire store and in the south end I use Discount in the Renton Highlands. My son "treed" a new (2-3 month old) $150 tire on my Toyota 4x4 and tore a hole in the sidewall. Discount asked me if I NOW wanted to purchase road protection warranty for $60 and get a new $150 tire...which I gladly agreed to. They were very nice when they could have soaked me for both the warranty, tire and remounting and balancing them all on my new wheels since he trashed the wheel too. Just my 0.02. Unless you are really looking for a special performance tire...I think they are all pretty comparable. In Seattle we only need good wet weather tires...LOL!

 Best set of tires I ever had! They are on my green and white.My orange and white had general tires ameri 100, long discontinued, were pretty good. I do not like michellan ( keep dry rotting off of the vans) bf goodrich, hard a$$ tire rough ridding ( they were on one of the vans). Just my opinion.Aaron |

i have the pathfinder trail a/p on the back of my truck and they were loose as all hell for like over a month but i got one flat and had it replaced with what they had at the time which is a dominator radial a/s and it sticks to the ground pretty well alot better than the pathfinders but i would go with discount if you can thats what i went with and they are the best ive been with or have heard of, a couple of ppl i know have gone thruogh them and have nothing but nice things to say about them

Bouncy, Get your total price from mail order and then get a quote for mount and balance if that is going to done locally. Then call discount and Les Schwab to see if they can match it. You might be surprised. Just a thought.

Check out Costco !!!! They had by far, the best price..... and... right now they have a coupon sale-- $60.00 off a set of 4; Michelin or B.F. Goodrich... Prices are listed on the web site www.costco.com

 I HAVE BEEN RUNNING BFG RADIAL T/As ON MY TRUCKS SINCE 1979. HAD REALLY GOOD LUCK WITH THEM. THEY RIDE NICE , ARE QUIET & LAST ME ABOUT 50,000 MILES. 12.50-15s ARE ABOUT $500 MOUNTED AND BALANCED. THEY'VE BEEN GOOD TO ME SO FAR.  JOHN

what size are you running? we carry the bfgoodrich radial longtrail t/a really alsome tire 50k tread warrenty. sam's club charges 9 buxs a tire to install which includeds free rotation and balace free flast repair and road hazzard protection, and new vavle stems

Pro Comps all the way and they usually throw in shipping free. buy three get one free is great, I bought three sets, locally Discount can't be beat and they can order Pro Comps and will come close to 4wheels parts price, just make sure you have a quote in writing and Discount will beat it. Again Make sure they don't beat the price then add taxes on top, cause mail order is cash w/o tax, do your homework and you'll get the best tire and a great deal!! Plus Discount will give you the roadhazard warrentee. You know when my tread gets low I always end up with a nail or cut in the sidewall, and Discount always honors my warrentee as long as the tire has 1/32 of tread left.

ive ran the BFG allterrains and the toyo open countrys,equally impressed with the wet traction on both,the toyo was quieter than the BFG,the bfg was a lettle better off road (mild use)

This is a popular tire size and lots to choose from. We have the Michelin LTX AT's on my dads restored 72 and have a new set of same for my 72 burb. Check www.tirerack.com link for many comparisons. I watch for tredwear ratings, traction, price, etc. My favorites are the Michelin (currently with rebate mentioned above). I have had issues with Costco but last 2 sets I bought from Americas Tire., you might have a local one (they are great for price matching). I also really like the Bridgestone Deuler Revo and the Yokohama Geolander. Revo rates the best over all I think. With these 3 its partly in what you want to pay. Hey Bob, I didn't realize she had a grill guard at one point. I'm glad you removed it! She is still my baby and I take good care of her. I still get complements and thumbs-up every where I go. It is almost time to put the hard top back on 'til next summer...

Dana had taken grill guard off and had it powdercoated. It is cherry. One of those dealer installed or hickey products I believe. I am saving it for the right truck. Sort of different but it does look awesome in the corner of shop.
